Spec me a van

Mate of mine constructed a fold down bed thing in the back of his Renault Master. Bike Gear, Walking Kit, Dog etc all went on floor and then matress/airbed and sleeping bag on the platform above.

Everything lifter out of the way and was fastened back to the sides so it could be used for proper stuff during the week.

Might be an idea to try to find a petrol one if you can. Old diesels can become very expensive to maintain and (depending on where you live and want to go) at that age/price point you may well find that a diesel model is incompatible with Low emissions zones.

I was seriously wanting to do this when our works van's lease was up but the company wanted just a bit too much to buy it off them :(

It looks like a really fun project to convert a van to your exact needs, i can imagine the costs could easily spiral out of control though BUT camper vans always demand a ridiculous premium so even if you did splash out on the conversion you'd probably always get your money back if you're doing the work yourself.

There are issues with re-registering a van as a camper, I am not sure of the details, but it does need to be looked into if you are anticipating selling it on at some point.

Maybe I'm thinking too much like a "car buyer" as opposed to a "van buyer", but if the owner (and indeed dealer) couldn't even be bothered to get hold of a new front badge for the sake of a few quid, how's the rest of the van been treated for it's life?

I would generally be suspicious of old transits (IE anything more than, well, 7-8 years old) Check out the underside really carefully and if it is sound and you buy it get it properly under-sealed

Typically the bits you cant see are just in factory primer (Literally )

Transits almost always rust really badly underneath (And everywhere else too!).

Even modern ones

No really, Recently saw a brand new transit. Underneath. Factory primer, no under-seal, no rust protection.

Shocking, absolutely shocking!

(A lot of newer cars are like this nowadays)

If you use facebook there's a few van conversion pages on there. Some of them are amazing, and there's quite a subculture going on of people living full time in them.Re registering a van as a camper with dvla doesn't seem too difficult.
