Back in the day I used to use tight VNC and/or UltraVNC, but haven't had need for a vnc client for a good while.

Which client/server combo is considered the best nowadays? I'd much prefer a free one :p

Cheers :)

Logmein Free

Lacks file transfer capabilities but you could just use Hamachi for that. For speed and quality of remote its unrivalled. No messing about with ports required either.

I played around with RDP last night, and I don't like the way the host computer gets locked, requiring the user to log back in.

Is there a way to stop this, so it acts like real/tight/ultra VNC, leaving the host machine logged in as normal, just under client control?

Teamviewer works perfectly for me

Love it. Have installed the client app on all my relatives machines so when they ring up for help they just open up teamviewer, tell me the password and i can help them!

Am using Remote Desktop here.... simple to use and just works. Can copy and paste over the 2 PC's and that is just about all I need.

THough Teamviewer sounds interesting

Logmein is great when you are doing it over the Internet as it sorts out everything such as dealing with NAT traversal and dynamic IP's. It's also very fast, and it will use your LAN if you are on the same network.
