OK we need to get a new washing machine as the one we have is not too well , but I know nothing about washing machines...it would be being used two times a day...at least ...so any help would be appreciated thanx :)

I've got a hotpoint aquarius + which i' e had for nearly 6 years that does on average at least 2 loads a day. On a wednesday it does around 5. When it dies i'm getting another for sure.

General consensus on here would be an LG direct drive. Old Coals is the resident expert and I bought mine on his recommendation and overall am very impressed with it.

We went for the steam one from John Lewis but to be honest we find it's good enough without using steam.

This replaced a 5 year old Aquarius and although we liked the Hotpoint, the LG does a better job at cleaning.

Miele are very expensive. I'm happy with my John Lewis own-brand washer-dryer, actually made by AEG.

Something to consider: are you doing two loads a day because of the amount of washing or because you're separating colours or materials? If the former, you can get machines with high load capacities. IIRC the Samsung can cope with 12 kg.

In my experience lg have been shocking. Technically brilliant but fragile. Bosch are hit and miss.

I'd buy what ever I can afford with the five year no quibble no nonsense warranty from John Lewis. Fantastic CS.

Buying white goods is such a lottery.

From what Quartz said, we use colour catchers (most supermarkets stock them) and means you can run mixed colours/whites in the same load. They really do work.

Only proviso on the above would be larger or darker items on first/second wash such as bed linen or dark died jumpers.

I read your tale of of woe in the other thread.

I can honestly say you have been really unlucky.

This year we have made the grand total of two repairs to LG machines, both for the motor stator.

The other machine was scrapped because of a foreign body smashing the tub.

They are ultra reliable given that you only need to spend £400 for an 8Kg machine.
