My 12 year old 7kg Samsung has finally bitten the dust.
I’m looking for something bigger - any reason not to go full ham on a 12kg?

I don’t really need WiFi as I can trigger alerts via a smart plug.
I don’t want a dryer combo as apparently they’re not great anyway.

Any recommendations on brand? I’d like to keep it simple and as cheap as possible without buying rubbish.

LG F4Y509WWLA1_WH is what I bought 2.5 years ago. It’s been decent enough. Very much rate autodosing

LG are fantastic. Can't go wrong with the Direct Drive. 5 years warranty.

This one is 10kg for £399 here with free delivery at the moment. Normal price is around £549, so this is a decent discount.

We just bought a Bosch Series 6, fantastic, Series 6 dryer is equally good. Both come with a 5 year warranty

Bit of a Bosch fanboy - it started with the dishwasher, then washing machine, heat pump tumble dryer, fridge/freezer, gas hob, oven and cooker hood.. even the boiler is a Worcester Bosch.

We've had a Bosch series 4 9Kg since 2017, that older iteration had an issue with the power board which caused the door lock to stop the start of a cycle in 2024. Being handy myself I bought both a new door locking and power board from Bosch spares and fitted it myself. Fixed and back to service. The new board had some obvious revisions around the relays which are the problem.

What I do like about it is it's effective but also quiet.

We also have the Bosch Heatpump dryer is very good too, and like modern dryers it dries to dryness rather than simply timing. I've had to replace the heating element on the series 8 oven (not a difficult job) with spares ordered online from Bosch spares. However it's a pyro oven and we used it quite a bit, getting near 450degC I assume stresses the elements.

Key point is I can get the spares myself and they're available for a long time plus they're relatively cheap. Which in the current world, is a good thing.

I actively avoid Samsung based on a bad experience after buy a Samsung TV which turns out to be a design flaw that they didn't want to know anything about (buzzing power on LED dimming).

I've got that one, well I just bought it, delivery is next week, hope it's good but I've had LG washers before and they were good

I also just bought a Bosch series 6 Heatpump dryer with delivery next week, hoping it's good as well. It will be my first heatpump dryer so I haven to get used to the longer drying cycles. Any tips for best settings??

We use the multi setting (ie no specific type of clothes) for the majority of the washes including sports wear. Towels have their own setting so we separate those. Sheets again separated on the sheet setting. It will stop when it's dry rather than need to be told timings, and you can adjust the dryness (IIRC we have 2 of 3 illuminated markers).

Just remove the lint from the double screens each load and remember to give the third foam screen a wash/clean every so often. All easy stuff.

Exactly what Nickk said, we had Bosch fitted throughout our kitchen and utility room during our house reift. No complaints with any of their kit

I watched one video about Bosch sealed drums and now my feed is full of this guy
AI thumbnail put me off but the content is useful. Thanks

Interesting, we’ve just had our kitchen done and went Bosch on the new appliances (hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave).

I’m not happy with the microwave or oven really. The microwave vibrates when the fan kicks in (and frankly the door opening mechanism is ridiculous!), the oven works fine but I hadn’t realised at the time of ordering that the screen is a pointless clock vs the AEG that I initially spec’d where it shows the temperature you’ve set and what the actual temperature is whilst in use. The Bosch works fine but it feels a bit.. old.

The dishwasher tho, it has a projector to display status on the floor when it’s running!

The oven I would agree with we came from a neff one which was great.

Microwave no problems with ours which is a series 4. The price is ludicrous though! Everything else is brilliant. Hob and extractor working together is great as well.

Series 4 microwave here too, it pained me to replace the 1000W Panasonic inverter countertop. Bosch have nothing until about £900 with an inverter and I’m not paying that!
Friend has exactly the same Series 4 and it doesn’t vibrate like ours. It’s only a few weeks old and am taking it up with Bosch / kitchen company
