Looking for some advice.
My current comp is getting old, and think its time for a upgrade or possibly a new one.
Basically I need a machine that I can run visual studios and Mssql server on and do some virtualisation stuff on. Illustrator and fireworks I do on my mac
This will be my main PC

Would want to be able to run two monitors. Don't really play games other than flight sim but not bothered if that's going to knock the price up.

Will need a os and hdd's

Budget wise cheep please.

It's still better to build my own then buy a readymade one?

Cheers

It's a old mac to.
I like the dual screen set up.
This is to do all my business work on.
Database size won't be to big 100mb if that. VM is just to use as a test environment for server2008/2012 and a few client win 7 to help with testing stuff not in a live environment .

Budget would £500 be about righti

Would I be able to re use this Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) ?

I would use the on-board graphics to power 2 monitors. I would be looking at a Haswell build. For VM's you really need an i7, but on £500 budget an i5 Haswell will have to do.

It's not very sexy, but this will be a solid and reasonably quick machine in budget using quality components, if your relying on something for work you should take reliability above anything else. Motherboard comes with Free CPU cooler. You need to add mouse and keyboard. You can drive both your monitors from the main board, the HD4600 graphics is fine for 2D and mild 3D.

Thanks Jason,
Yeah it needs to be reliable rather than flash :-)
Is Intel better then amd for my situation?

If you are going to be running a lot of VM - then the AMD FX-8320 or 8350 might be a better option if working to a budget. But the difference between AMD and Intel are next to nothing in terms of performance but the Intels are slightly faster at single threaded performance.
