"it needs to be a laugh"

Practicality, fuel consumption etc can go out of the window.

Any suggestions?
I am considering a Clio 172, anything I have overlooked?

Buy mk1 MR2, buy 3S-GTE (mk2 mr2 turbo) or 3VZ-FE (3l V6 Camry) engine, fit (or pay paul woods to fit), obviously do the suspension/brake mods to suit and enjoy a lightweight, good handling car with 230-300bhp

Might be stretching the £3k budget though depending whether you could do it yourself and/or how much you get the mk1 mr2 for
