Spec me a weight bench

Get yourself a decent power rack and bench. I've got a Bodymax power rack which is excellent for what I need (on the middle floor of my house) and perfect for the weights I use - I'm no Olympian! But this will handle more than enough weight.

There are more out there which are more industiral and can handle a lot more weight, my friends one in his shed looks like it was custom made for a transformer it's that hard core strong, but the Bodymax etc ones are fine for in house :)

Wouldn't a power rack+ bench be well out of his price range?

Then he needs to either go to the gym or save up for longer.

I'm sure once he needs to bail on a heavy squat and has no spotter bars, he won't be thinking "at least I saved a few bob buying squat stands".

Either buy proper equipment, or don't buy anything. For your own safety.

yea I agree weight lifting alone with no safeguards just isn't worth the risk and you will never be able to fully push yourself

Seriously? You guys never dumped a front/back squat before?

Regarding benching, that's a bit different. :)

Bodymax CF375 Power Rack
Bodymax CF328 Deluxe Flat, Incline, Decline Utility Bench
Bodymax 100kg Olympic Cast Barbell Kit with 7' Olympic Bar

£563.97

Worth it? Or should I join a gym for £200 a year?

Problem with gyms are you end up weighting around for people to finish off machines/using free weights. All the gyms near me are always packed. Think I'll save up and get a power rack and bench.

Check out local Facebook selling groups and Gumtree/eBay for home gym stuff, I've found people tend to want rid of their stuff rather pronto so there are all kinds of bar-gains to be had.

Save up for the kit, or get it on a buy now pay later type thing (either if a website offers it or taking out a credit card w/an interest-free period). You can probably get the weights 2nd hand for a good price if you're prepared to collect from somewhere.

Trust me buy a rack and be safe rather then risk it, I have actually dropped a weighted bar on my face due to not having one. (I then stopped until I could afford one)

Way out my price range

Sorry, missed that part of the OP. Ooops :p

But to reiterate what others have said, it is worth it for the safety alone and in the long run (depending on how committed you are to its use) it will be much cheaper than gym memberships, especially second hand.

Tesco are offering a 0% credit card at the moment, be cheaper than a gym membership in the long run and a plus if you really do want to workout from home.
