Im looking about for an ISP for a small shop in Bristol, i have advised BT Business broadband (Small business) package which is £31inc vat but they think thats far too expensive.

Anyone got any suggestions? as its a business the Customer/Technical support must be a good factor of the service.

Got to love the way people think about broadband these days :)

£31 is too expensive, but support has to be good because it is a business...

If broadband is not essential to the business then put them on a cheap 'home' package.

If it is essential to them then remind them that it is worth more than £31 to them if it breaks and get them onto a real business class service with an SLA from one of the more business oriented ISPs.

My personal nightmare from when I was in the ISP business was people phoning up getting angry because they were 'a business' and demanding instant resolutions to technical issues yet they never wanted to pay for a service level that reflected the importance of the service to them.

If it is essential then consider a managed router solution with an ISDN dial backup, several ISPs provide services like that but the going rate is probably closer to £100 a month.

If not vital then unless they have a special need for higher upload bandwidth there is little point in the 'business' solutions on offer from most ISPs so take a 'home' service from one that has no T&C preventing business use on 'home' services.

Que Enta network via various resellers. :p

I know Aquiss doesn't mention anything wrong with being used for buisness connections. UKFSN explicitly says pay your money and use the connection how you wish as long as you stay in the caps.

Teal, I think it was you who said that about a year ago, was worded very similarly; but it really did stick in my mind for some reason. :)

*laughs* probably was me, it certainly isn't the first time I've said it :)

A lot of businesses will spend more on the milk bill than they do on the ADSL connection. If the milk is off they just open another pint, if the ADSL is off they look for their Tech advisor to roast/sack him, yet in most cases they refused to pay for the right service level at the start.

My personal favourites include an Internet Cafe running on a 2Mb home product and an on-line lettings agency who used their own website to allow the telephone staff to work so no internet = no work possible for 10 staff yet they felt anything more than a basic 'home' style connection was 'too expensive' until they had problems of course and had no back-up solution ...

If they won't spend £31 then it doesn't much matter who they go with, it'll be home user style customer service anyway, could do worse than zen though...

If they want business dsl they need a decent isp and get totalcare on the line (that way BT will progress faults outside business hours, otherwise they'll only send someone to the exchange 8-6 ish).

but people won't do it till they have a problem...
