It's about time I go to an airshow again - not been in like 15-20yrs - and take the kids along too.

Any recommendations? eg: Fairford? Farnborough?

I miss Finningley. Had some great days there as a lad with my late Father and family. Great memories.
I miss Biggin Hill Air Fair! Went near enough every year of my life until it was cancelled, the little one they do now isn't the same.

RIAT is probably the best I've been too in terms of the sheer amount of jet displays, which is what we all want to see obviously :p

Used to do Biggin Hill every year since the 90s. Great day out watching the aircraft supping Magners on the grass.Weather was fantastic almost every single year too. Gutted they stopped it in 2010. Also attended one at RAF Milden Hall (USAF). That was pretty spectacular!

With it being the 100th anniversary of the RAF, this years Air Tattoo is looking very good.
I biased as I volunteer there and this will be my 4th year!

I always enjoy the Flying Legends at Duxford but props and pistons always win over turbine blades for me, the added bonus with Duxfod is the museum itself as well if you get there early enough.

Doh! The B-1 Lancer is static and not flying :( - I remember at the last airshow one took off and the noise was epic!

Be tempting to phone the kids in sick on that Friday to see the mass flypast!
Last time i went to RIAT I was just walking from the car when the B1 blasted past, wings back, afterburners on and set off a load of cars alarms. it was epic :p

i went to Duxford too and it was very enjoyable, had a good mix of aircraft [biplanes, WWII and the F22] but they also run a couple other shows in the year. RIAT and Farnborough are the most well known but it seems you pay accordingly and i think RIAT sells out pretty fast. nothing to tempt me this year, i was hoping someone would have a B2 or the Apache display again.
as mentioned about Duxford also has a good museum but the problem is a load of the good aircraft are jammed in one hall, so it's nigh on impossible to get good pics of a particular place. they have an SR71 though, was pleased to see that in the flesh.

Saw one of these do a high-speed pass at Mildenhall one year and, having walked around the static planes in previous years and seen how damn big the beast is, it absolutely blew my mind seeing something so huge moving so quickly.

Only thing I've ever seen at an air show that equalled it - coincidentally it was Mildenhall again a few years previously - was hearing this colossal roar from one end of the runway, thinking "WTF is that racket?", only to have the SR71 Blackbird come tearing into view, gear-up, flying at treetop height along the runway, making enough noise to wake the dead :D

Going to recommend Duxfords displays, also The Shuttleworth Collection.

Nothing too modern there, especially at shuttleworth. But fantastic sounds and smells from the old prop beasties.
