Spec me an airshow over summer to go to

All the stories of B1s reminded me of an incident that happend at Stansted Airport years ago. We used to park up at the end of the runway and watch the planes take off and listen to the pilots on the radio, try to identify the aircraft etc. When we heard this roar and saw a English Electric Lightning doing a full speed take off. It just went vertical and disappeared into the clouds. "Like a homesick angel"

Cosford for sure. But as it's this Sunday, not sure about ticket availability/tickets getting to you in time.

They stopped cash on the gate a year or two ago.

Another vote for Duxford.

Three years ago I spent the summer working at a site opposite the airfield. Working alongside a good bunch of people with the sight and sounds of a Spitfire roaring past a couple of times a day, doing training runs with an airshow approaching, brings back enjoyable memories.

Swansea air show is always good. Last year it was hot as **** but that only added to it, as it’s held on the beach overlooking the mumbles.

Lots of food, a fair ground and a stone throw from mumbles if you fancy a day out. Free too :)

Duxford's really good but RIAT is also amazing. It's a bit like comparing apples to oranges though. RIAT has more thrills and Duxford is a great day out with some stunning old aircraft.

Lightning and vulcan take offs/flights are two massive standout memories for me. Its over 30 years ago but I can still hear them. Awesome experience

Flying legends is great but if you want to get closer/in the crowd line it's ridiculous. We got there at 10am and the only option if you wanted to be close to the line was sit on someone else's lap as every man and his dog has his perch with camera, bags, chairs etc.

We opted to sit about 50m back up against the cold war hangar, about 20 mins into the display it ended up being the only place in the shade and we were really happy with it. no one else realised until the 2pm heat started taking its toll on them

I worked at Duxford many moons ago, so maybe a biased opinion... buuuut... I would defo recommend Duxford air shows. Flying Legends has always been a personal favourite, but sadly not been for a number of years now.
But as Boycey0211 said, it can get very toasty on the right days. Make sure you take plenty of sun protection in the car in case.

Sunderland!
The Sunderland air show is great for how much it costs (nothing)

Nightmare to get away from if you use public transport though, metro queue to leave Sunderland is at least 3-5 times the capacity of a single metro train.

When I was last their with the GF and kids we saw the queue and decided it wasn't worth the hassle so went to a local park for an hour instead, until the queue would be gone.

it's crazy nexus don't just stick like 4 trains in a row waiting for when the airshow flying times are finished and almost everyone tries to leave at the same time

Understood, but it's all very vague what is being offered as an alternative on the Sat or Sun?

If it's as simple as there's a huge once in a life time 50+ plane flypast on Friday (ie: on Sat or Sun there's nothing like it), then I'll go through the extra hoops to go on that Friday :)

RE Sat/Sun they say, "Whilst the massed flypast is scheduled to take place on the Friday only, the Royal Air Force is hoping to stage special RAF100 themed set-pieces during the weekend's eight-hour flying display."

It's all a little vague :(

I think it's just Friday otherwise there would be mention for Sat/Sun

Also I don't think it's the full 100, that is happening in London in July

Grrrr... The Friday would mean my other half missing a company jolly and my two kids being *cough* ill that day... So it's tricky to know whether to go on Friday or not :(
