Spec me... an American rental car

WiFi is essential for booking the next hotel :p

A good point if you are travelling that way which most people aren't and anyway it takes two minutes in Starbucks/McDonalds car park.

Tbf don't forget as well that the only reason the 'higher end' hotels came into the equation in this particular case was because of the somewhat unusual combination of being probably one of the most expensive places to stay, in peak season, on the most expensive days (Fri/Sat) - which gives a compressing effect to what you can get for the money.

Mid-week or off-peak here, or in most other places your average 'high-end' hotel like the Canary would be $100, $150 a night more expensive than your average Best Western which no, I wouldn't say is worth it. As it happens (and to my surprise tbh) because of how much the 'cheap' motels here obscenely ramp up their prices in peak season, the price differential comes right down which then opens up the 'more expensive' places up to consideration.

To use the Holiday Inn Express here in SB as a comparison - a Fri/Sat stay in June is $229 a night vs. Canary at $249 a night - go figure.

Just my 2 cents! :p

Rich, would you recommend any restaurants in your hometown, or anywhere else we're going for that matter? The one with the see through tables looks awesome!

Hah quite a question, SB is literally full of amazing places to eat :p

Breakfast at the Harbor Inn out on the pier in SB is good for the ambience and atmosphere especially as the lunch and dinner offerings are a little disappointing and over-priced compared to what else is on offer in town. Though I had an amazing breakfast recently at Eladio's on the corner of State and Cabrillo Blvd (at the base of the pier).

Enterprise Fish Co at the bottom of State St is really good food especially for happy hour. Other noteworthy places would be Opal Restaurant at the top of State St, Holdrens for steak/ribs type food, Arigato has amazing sushi but is pricey, er.. the list goes on :p Oh El Paseo is a cool Mexican place as it's kinda in a courtyard which is open air and they have live bands and strong margaritas :D Tbh I've lived here for 2 years and there are still plenty of places I have been told are good that I haven't got to yet.

Yeah that place in Avila is awesome :) Otherwise San Luis Obispo is a cool little town with some good bars and burger joints, don't know enough to recommend fine dining to be honest

Anybody know when Hertz usually do deals ?

We're going florida this summer and wondering what to book. Might be tempted by a mustang if a decent deal comes up.

Randomly. But dont worry about leaving it up until the last month before booking, there is no rush.

'Going Florida' conforms a bit too much to the typical Brit in Florida stereotype though, so get that 'to' back in there :p

I'm a slave to the machine fox

We're going disney and everything lol.

Where do you look for the deals, is there a newsletter or similar thats worth subscribing to ?

No, just keep an eye on the Hertz site.

If you decide against the Mustang, I found that booking a 'Luxury' with Carhire3000 resulted in a booking with Alamo. Alamo at Orlando is a section of the parking garage where you pick any car in the line - about 20 to chose from. Can take whatever Luxury class car you want, thats where I got my G37.

Wasn't that much more than Fullsize.

Im off to San Francisco in a few weeks and need to book a hire car. I am thinking of getting a covertible and looking at the Eclipse, only problem is that it also says similar and I dont want a ***** Sebring. Anyone have experience of trying to get an Eclipse and what did you end up with.

Also I will be driving to Yosemite, is a covertible safe in Yosemite bearing in mind the bears ? If not I think I will just go for the Mustang GT.

Cheers

Just seen some interesting prices for flights to CA this summer.
Also noticed the Hertz Adrenaline Collection...
Is it worth *****ing $90 a day on a Mustang GT/ Camaro SS/ Challenger R/T for a 10-day mini road trip?

Thinking of doing LAX-LV-Grand Canyon-SF-LAX but 10 days is tight..

You are basically paying more than double just for a V8.

The V6 Mustang or Camero are fine for road trips and offer easily enough performance for the silly speed limits anyway and can be found in the regular convertible class.

Oops housemates and I are planning a cheeky three week trip from New York to LA in about May time next year. I'll have to start reading through this thread again :D

Still trying to decide what to do this summer. Want a mustang convertible and Alamo / dollar are both on location at orlando.

Hertz guarantee a mustang but want £500 for 2 weeks and you have to get a shuttle bus as its off property?

Alamo and dollar are both £400 ish but have that "or similar" worry
