Spec me an audio codec for youtube

Hello,

I have been trying to upload game vids to youtube, now in the past I've used Xfire but this has had it's own issues like not recording from the correct source properly. I used to convert to xvid with virtualdub and left the sound as it was ( it was poor anyways as it recorded from my mic and the sound data wasn't mahoosive). So I use fraps, and this properly records my sound and even in 5.1 as a bonus. But the problem is the size of the sound data, even with xvid @ 90% quality of max, sound is still taking up more space than video. Now in the past for own use I used AC3 5.1 192kbit/sec. Problem is, youtube iirc didn't properly decode this and I was left with vids without sound. So I need a codec that can properly recode the 5.1 fraps uncompressed audio into something like 128kbit stereo. I have tried mpeg3 codec as it's in the list in vdub but it doesn't convert and vdub gives the problem that the audio encoder froze...

So is there any codec that I can install for virtualdub to detect, that recodes 5.1 into stereo properly ( without sound loss, eg. code center channel into left and right ) and is recognized by youtube, that when I upload my vid, the sound gets properly converted to whatever youtube uses ( flash?).

divx 6 is best i think

The levels of quality on youtube are:

&fmt=6 increases the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336, Flash 7 video @ 900Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 96Kbps Mono CBR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWXRybZS4A&fmt=6

&fmt=18 increases the resolution to 480x360, H.264 video @ 512Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 128Kbps Stereo.

I need an encoder than can handle 5.1 and convert into 2.0, and finally, that is recognized by youtube so my video's have sound .

install this first.

then you'll be able to use vdub/divx

-If you've never installed the decompressor before, simply right-click on the "AC3ACM.inf" file, and choose "Install" from the popup menu. I don't think it's necessary to reboot, but it can't hurt. If you get a scary warning that the program has not passed "Windows Logo testing" (which is quite true BTW), choose to "Continue Anyway."

It still doesn't help, I already had AC3 I think anyways as I installed a codec pack...

And the raw file says ''AC3Filter'' as source audio...

I could leave it like that as it's only 100 mb anyway but last time I uploaded a vid with the original Fraps sound codec it didn't add sound to the vid once uploaded to youtube, also seems a waste: 60 mb audio data for 40 mb of vid data

Are you sure I should be able to convert the fraps 5.1 codec into divx 2.0 like with AC3 installed in vdub ?

I've rebooted by now and still no luck.
I am uploading the vid to youtube now, hoping youtubes recoders are somewhat more capable by now and It'll have sound... But this is a short vid so I will need to convert the fraps 5.1 codec into 2.0 mp3 somehow anyway in the near future, can anyone tell me how they got their fraps vids with sound on youtube ( without having to switch my soundcard to 2.0) ?

No sound in that vid except for the first 1 second, any ideas on how to get sound working for fraps vids for youtube ? Anyone ?

Have you tried using the save wav function of virtualdub? It demuxes the audio to a separate file. You could then convert it to a stereo 128 kbps mp3 using something like besweet or super, and then remux it into the video using virtualdub.

Have you checked if there's an option in Fraps to output audio in stereo rather than 5.1? That would seem to be the simplest solution if it's possible. Even if there's no option, it'd surely work if you changed your sound configuration to 2 speakers before taking the video.

Otherwise, filbuster's idea is the way forward. Not used VirtualDub for a while, but you need to get the audio into a separate file before you can work with it using the save WAV function.
