i dont care about driving an Auto and how uncool it is or what ever. There must be some auto drivers on here. I'm still learning to drive but its frustrating the hell out of me as I am concentrating on whats around me outside the car and not operating the car. Thinking about going Auto as i need to be driving this year. Spec me a decent Auto for up to 3k.

i would pass in a manual, drive an auto by all means after but it does limit your choices

was gonna pass in auto and keep my hand in with the manual driving with my girlfriends car and retake manual at a later date when I have a bit mre experience on the roads and I'm less gittery about whats going on around me

Definitely. If you pass in an auto you can never drive a manual - you can't hire manual cars, borrow friends' cars, you're limited in terms of choice when looking at second hand cars.

Autos definitely have their place but a manual license is essential IMO. Everyone when learning to drive has the feeling of having to do everything at once - eventually you get used to it and wonder what you ever found so difficult. Just give it time :).

I've just gone from an auto back to a manual after 8 months and what I'm finding difficult at the moment is changing gears whilst operating the MMI.... ;)

when i had an auto for a few weeks went back to manual and thought my car was knackered when it would only do 30 and sounded terrible. I was just still in first never thought to change, clutch give me no problem. Roundabouts were a nightmare for a few days constantly stalling tryign to pull off in fourth / fifth :(

I've gone manual to auto and back a few times now and I can't say I've ever found that. It's like switching between Linux, BSD and Windows - your mind just switches into a different 'mode' and you get on with it, with enough practice anyway.

When I get a hire car , I often ask for an auto, only problem is my left leg goes to sleep , kind of wake me up when we get there. Useful for city driving I found especially when abroad.

Agree with what's been posted so far. Pass in a manual if you possibly can.

I drive an auto at the moment and have had autos (apart from the RX8) as my main drive for getting on 10 years now. But, because I can legally drive a manual I'm not restricted with hire and courtesy cars.

first time i swapped, perhaps it will be easier next time. Gear changes didn't come naturally for about 2 weeks :(

Some good advice but what I want to do is pass as quickly as I can which could take ages in a manual car. What I might do is book some lessons in a manual and see how it goes and then switch to auto if the going is slow. I need a car on the road the quickest way possible.
