my bro needs an editing machine for his college course/university, it will run adobe premier

It needs two harddrives, 2-3Gbs of RAM, Graphics Card doesn't matter as it will not be used for gaming.

So if you could please spec me a system, Thanks

Its to early in the mornign to think straight , but :

I think thats ok , the 2.4 Core 2 for the large cache.
2 Gb of ram , got that becuase im not sure of the compatibility issuses with Ram volts and DS3 ?
DS3 - Becuase everyone loves them right ?
2 X 320Gb segates, they are fast , and large and cheaper than raptors.
PSU - someone check this ?
GFX - becuase its alright for Vista and all , but could still play games fairly well.
Case becuase its cheap.

Obv, you will have to add cd drives and such but i didnt know what so yeah. Also a budget to work to would be nice.

Also will he need monitor keyboard and mouse ?

Please someone correct this as i know there will be issues lol. Im tired :(

whats the budget?

does he need keyboard n mouse also?

budget is £1000, doesn't need a mouse & keyboard

what about a raptor, would that be good for editing?

oh and he would also need an OS Windows XP would do

I only mentioned the Raptor as im sure someone down the line would suggest it at some point. In reality a Segate .10 drive will be much better in this situation as it is large, and really rather quick, and a lot lot cheaper per GB.

Yeah Windows XP will be fine, but make sure to get XP Pro.

So in that case, i would agree with the previous spec, but ...
i would switch the Core 2 to the 1.4 with the 4 meg cahce as it will make a difference in edititng, and maybe also if you can afford it get a better PSU.
But other than that it seems fine.

Either one of the above specs will be perfect, the 6600 would be better for video work though. I'd consider a Raptor too as you could load Windows and Apps on it and then have the 2x320gb drives for storage and rendered/output files
