Spec me an FPS with decent single player play time (eg HL2)

-Jedi Knight series? It's a mixture of FPS and other elements.
-Far Cry.
-Previous Half-Life games?
-Halo, possibly?
-Red Faction.
-Medal of Honor: AA and Spearhead.

Just a few there.

I agree. Scoped weapons make it like CoD.

However, like every other problem with Stalker, ever, the answer is always "Complete Mod".
 
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is pretty damn good. It's a mixture of first person and third person though, but it's the Star Wars universe... and the amazing John Williams music, which is awesome.

You could try Serious Sam 1 and 2, those are quite fun but not much story to them.

There is also COD series which have good play time (well.. in the earlier games I think).

Then there's FEAR, which a lot of people recommend.

Doom 3, and Portal.

Wolfenstein (latest one) and Return to castle wolfenstein.

Prey as well is pretty good.

Of course Deus Ex if you have not played it and Thief 3.
 
I vote for Prey.

It's long enough for your needs, extremely atmospheric and has some awesome features you won't have seen in a million other fps's. You probably won't have played it already..... because only 3 people bought it.

You can pick it up for a couple of quid retail, and the cd-key works with steam (despite it no-longer being sold there).

*shrug* you can like the vanilla game all you want, but claiming its realistic because of it is bs. As sw1tch said once you pick up a scoped weapon nothing else matters, however i would say the answer is 'Oblivion Lost' not 'Complete Mod' :p

Nothing beat waiting for an enemy to pop out and blowing his head off at 30m with the TOZ Hunting Shotgun.

Prey was a good game. Played it at a similar time to Timeshift which also seems fairly unheard of.

Yeah, It was a lot better when modded. I did use the oblivion lost mod after the first time round in vanilla and I loved it even more. Have not played the other games though. Only the first. I hear a lot of good about the second one although it was given poor ratings (that did put me off a bit tbh)
