Out of touch on netbooks but would like to get one again. What I'm after is

11" + Screen
Fastish processor - dual atom ?
GFX that can handle outputing 1080p HD
2 gig ram (or upgradeable to)
160gb + HD
Budget up to £400

Ones I'm currently researching on are
Acer Asopire 1810t
Samsung N510
Dell Inspiron 11Z
Compaq Mini 311

Any views on these or any I've missed or should look at ?

Many Thanks :)
Pete

Hi

I have just bought an Acer 1810TZ, it is a fantastic bit of kit, watched two HD movies last night on it, just over 5 hours and battery still had nearly two hours charge left in it, this was over a wireless network to.

It comes with all the usual bloatware from acer but later today im going to wipe it and install a clean windows 7 ultimate, ive had a samsung NC10, allthough i though it was a nice netbook, this wipes the floor with it, fast, responsive etc, even with all the crap that comes installed.

Hope this helps and if you need ask any q's, i will be happy to answer them :)

Thanks

Another vote for the Acer 1810TZ. I got the Olympic edition that had bluetooth, but only 2GB ram. I've upgraded to 4GB ram and the thing absolutely flies. No problems playing 1080p HD video. Plays HD streaming video from YouTube fine as well. It's a dual core CULV so comes with Windows 7 Premium 64bit. You notice a huge difference in multitasking - e.g unraring a large file, which watching HD video with a bunch of background stuff open is no problem. It really is the perfect portable laptop. The only thing I would change would be to increase the touchpad size, but thats only when comparing to Macbooks et al.

im liking that Asus netbook, time for an upgrade me thinks.. dual-core atom and ion is a decent step up i think :) hopefully has hdmi too :D

will definitely be keeping an eye out for it.

The 1810z does look great but out of budget unfortunately. The Asus with dual core atom and ion will be a killer as well but I've gone for a compaq mini 311z 1030SA which is a bargain at the moment for £269 delivered and has onboard 3G :)

Compaq Mini 311c-1030SA with 3G SIM slot can be had for ~£250 with cashback offers at the HP Store. Comes with Windows XP, the W7 model isn't out yet.

The new Dell Mini 10 is coming in the new year with HD acceleration, 1366x768 screen (10.2") and various other options like 3G support and A-GPS. Google the news as it looks good and should be nicely priced too!
