Spec Me An MMORPG Game.

Since after playing the well known Runescape before, I rather get into a different one. Stopped playing RS when I was like 15, and never looked at another since. Heard of some like Guild Wars and WoW, which one would be better? I know they're probably both good in their own aspect, but I heard one of them was a subscription based, I don't want that.

Any of you guys play? And what are the good and bad bits about them..

Thanks. ;)

WoW is the subscription based one (£8.99 p/m), so you don't want that.

Guildwars is liek the Couterstrike of MMOs.

pick up and play when you like. Nothing really in it but pvp.

What is pvp? I've looked at the website and it somewhat does attract me, but pvp is where I'm a tad lost

Player Versus Player

In Guild Wars, Guilds can have matches against each other.

The vast majority of MMORPGs are subscription based; it's how they work, so I'm afraid you won't have a lot of choice if you limit yourself to non-subscription ones.

How much raiding / item collection is there in GW? In WoW PvP is based a lot on what gear you have and hardcore raiders have a big advantage over everyone else. Is it like that or is it more just down to skill?

That isn't true. The epic PvP gear(Rank 12/13/14) is pretty much on par and in many cases superior to tier 1/tier 2/tier 2.5 armor/weapons.

Also don't forget that raid gear and PvP gear are designed for different purposes. The druid PvP gear for example is designed to support a feral combat build (Which is generally considered the best druid build for PvP), whereas most raid gear is designed to support a restoration specced druid (Which is a PvE raiding build).

Skill > Good gear. Skill and good gear > Skill.

But yeah, I can see where you are coming from. People who put in the time to obtain better gear have an advantage over those who don't or can't. That's the nature of pretty much all MMO's and RPG's. If you want a game that's based purely on skill and nothing else you'd be better off with an FPS/RTS or something similar.

THeres loads of free trials for the best MMOs always popping up here and there.

Try some of these, in no particular order. You can get a slight taste of what they are all about.

EVE
City of Villians
Star Wars Galaxies
EverQuest 2
Anarchy Online
Dark Age of Camelot
Planetside. (fps not strictly an MMO)

That should keep you going for 2-3 months lol. Hope you Broadband cos some of those are big Downloads
