So I bought my current 1070 well over 6yrs ago, so time for an upgrade I feel :)

I feel a 4070 would be a good logical price point/performance replacement, but which to get? I'm not fussed about squeezing every last frame per second out of the GPU, with it being very quiet and cool and reliable isntead being top of the list? My cuirrent 1070 is lovely and quiet especially with the fans turning off when not required.

ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070? Although there seems to be report of issues with this or concerns over coil whine?

I have the 4070fe and build quality is excellent being all metal, the asus you mention is all plastic bar the backplate. Temps are about 65c and fan noise is hardly noticeable when gaming. It's also the cheapest 4070 right now.

As for coil whine, most cards have it to some degree, some worse than others, so it's the luck of the draw.

Is that direct via the nVidia store?
Ahhh! Didn't know you could buy direct... Thanks... That said it's only about £30 cheaper than say the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 12GB DUAL OC Graphics Card which of course will surely be cooler/quieter?

ps: I am right in saying these will plug straight into my older PCI-E 3 slot on my MB?

The only official way to get the FE cards is via the nVidia store who use a local supplier as a distributor.

I couldn't say which would be cooler/quieter but the cooling on the FE cards is pretty decent giving a fair bit of headroom for tuning the voltage and fan curve - my 3070FE is reasonably quiet but not as quiet as some of the AIB cards in the past which have had higher end cooling.

To be fair to nVidia the FE cards are quite something - pictures/video don't do them justice in terms of how premium they look and feel in the flesh - they make pretty much every GPU I've previously owned look cheap and poorly made in comparison even my 780GHz edition.

What warranty do FE cards have? Where is their RMA office?

I think thus far the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 OC Edition for under £590 looks the most rounded bet for me. About the same size as my existing MSI 1070 and a bit lighter. Seems to be cool and quiet enough.

If there's excessive annoying coil whine I'll return.
