Spec me an NVidia 4070 please (to replace my prehistoric 1070)...

QUESTION: Am I right in saying to upgrade from my NVidia 1070 to an NVidia 4070 I simply take the old card out, and put the new one in, and voila? ie: No need to uninstall drivers and re-install drivers?

Should be OK.

Personally, when I change cards, even if it's from the same manufacturer, I do a full DDU and reinstall.

That's all I did when I swapped the other half's Inno3d 3060ti for first the MSI 4070 Ventus (horrible coil whine) and then the Asus 4070 Dual. Worked fine.

I haven't used a 4070 FE but the Asus is very quiet, even using the normal BIOS. There's also a quiet BIOS option if you need it even quieter.

Thanks for that info about the upgrade, and the comment about the Asus 4070 Dual.

I have the 4070FE and its essentially silent in operation (0% fan below 60C) - i.e can't be heard over normal case fans (in my case running an aggressively quiet fan curve at the expense of slightly higher CPU temps).

The card itself is all metal and the build quality is top notch.

Performance wise they will all be essentially the same as the 4070 is mostly power limited.
