FPS these days bore me, nothings fun to play and well, RTS is always a good time killer. I used to play I think it was called Age of Empires? It was simple and fun, Ive tried CoH and I got majorly stuck in the campaign it got a bit hard with a million things going on. Can anyone spec something a little more simple?

Put it this way, in CoH an early campaign is to defeat 10 Panzers and take a road to escort a convoy, I've failed it like 20 times :(

supreme commander

Sounds right because it can be very slow paced with plenty of time to build and think.

Make sure you get the supreme commander gold with the expansion pack though.

Don't cap the point that makes the convoy spawn until you own the map, first wipe out the Nazis from the map then capture the split road while keeping 2 combat groups at the end of the 2 roads where new Nazis will spawn.

Seems a decent suggestion, but supcom is only slow enough if slowing the game speed to -1 or -2, at 0 speed there's much more going on than in CoH.

You reckon? I don't "get" CoH, always been terrible at it, but I'm not bad ad the battles in the TW games...maybe that's just me though :D

It entirely depends on the battles, on fullsized big battles you really need to command a lot, from the moment you or the ai charges into your battle lines you really have to correct yourself a lot.

I like COH and Dawn of War 2 because it does away with base building (which i hate).

Stick them on easy level and you should progress okay. Dawn of War is great because even if you fail a mission you still get the XP so the next time you try the level, its a bit easier.

must have:
- Age of empires series (including Star Wars Battleground),
- C&C generals/zero hour,
- Red Alert 2 (stay away from Red Alert 3 it's rubbish - C&C tiberium is average),
- World in Conflict
- CoH opposing front - great expansion
- Commandos (1 to 3 only, forget Strike Force): not typical RTS, you have small squad and it's really immersive, really need to take your time and think about your moves.

can also try:
- Rise of nations: very cool units but world map thing isn't great, upgrading civs is different but OK
- Cossacks: if you like huge armies w/ +1000
- Joint Task Force: pretty damn good actually, not typical RTS but quite fun nonetheless. I recommend and can be played at your own pace which I like since I am not into blitz.
- Act of War: pretty cool units, game is definetly worth a try, but somehow it isn't one of my top games
- Starcraft: excellent. would be in "must have" except it has aged a lot now + can only play it 800x640 res :(

Imo it's like this:

MUST:
- Age of empires series (including Star Wars Battleground), go to igzone and play multiplayer :).
- Red Alert 2 + Yuri (stay away from Red Alert 3 it's rubbish - C&C tiberium is average)
- Rise of nations: Random maps are superb, campaigns aren't really what the game is about
- Cossacks: if you like huge armies w/ +1000: Get back to war as it includes everything from art of war and European wars except the campaigns and scenario's. Superb game. Awesome in multiplayer with mates. The ai in back to war is fubared though: I copied the ai files for the older nations from european wars to use in back to war so I could play normally against the ai lol. The issue with cossacks though is it won't run on gfx cards from the geforce 8 series ( or 8800's anyway), you need a geforce 7 or older to play it.

can also try:
- C&C generals/zero hour, ( it was good but not a must try game imo)
- World in Conflict ( not my type of game, in fact I hated it, but I dislike most games without base building... The random/custom battles just bored me to death and thats what I mainly look for in rts games.
- CoH opposing front - great expansion, but doesn't add too much gameplay to the original imo, can play against the British and panzer eilite anyways with just CoH, played the first 2 missions of panzer elite and bored me to death compared to orig campaign.

Never played so can't judge:
- Starcraft
- Joint Task Force:
- Act of War:
- Commandos (1 to 3 only, forget Strike Force)

doubt you will like JTF and Commandos since they are SP and not multi; however you must play Starcraft if you like Multi - and get ready for waves of rushing Zergs ;)
