I am looking at getting a bit of an upgrade, it will be used mostly for gaming, budget of about £300

my current spec is

Q6600
Gigabyte EP43UD3l
Corsair HX620w
Geil 2x 1gig
Ati HD5850

am thinking i would get away with just replacing the mobo, mem, cpu ?

any ideas thanks :)

1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £56.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £49.99
Total : £238.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

For a cheaper AMD spec. For gaming you really won't notice any difference. It'll allow you to save towards a better GPU too :D

I don't know what your basing that statement on, i don't think it's true but im not going to argue, its still a good spec.

Though, the 970's don't seem to cope very well with the 125W CPU's, as the power phases aren't as good as those found on the 990's. If you are saving a fair whack treat yourself to a board that won't melt when you overclock. :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI 990XA-GD55 AMD 990X Chipset (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
Total : £89.89 (includes shipping : £8.25).

For the record, id still go with idles spec if you can't wait until haswell. :)

Solid spec bud :)

The Z77-D3H is the better mobo I wont argue that. Although I would take the faster RAM kit as it's priced so close to 1600Mhz Kits ;)

Your 5850 is better than a 6850. OC it if you haven't already. It should still do you till October when AMD will launch new GPUs bundled with BF4 :D

I base my statement on the fact he's using a 5850. This will run the same on an i5 or piledriver. Good shout on the motherboard though, gives him the option to overclock

well thanks or the advice , ill hold off a few weeks and see what the new chips come in at, then as for a respec check ;)
