Spec me an upgrade

Keep getting asked what I want for Xmas. Can't for the life of me decide, so I'm wondering whether there is something I can upgrade in my PC. Thinking about a new CPU.

Current spec:

Core2Duo @ 3Ghz
4Gb OCZ P6400 Platinum
BGF 8800GT 512Mb OC
Abit IP-35 Pro
Coolermaster ATCS201 + Corsair HX520 PSU

I'm sorted for displays, keyboard and mouse and speakers. Is it worth going for a Quad Core CPU perhaps? Note it doesnt need to be an ultra value packed upgrade, just something nice. Are there new CPU's just around the corner that would make going Quad Core now pointless?

I use my machine mainly for gaming. What else have I missed?

from what i can tell, to upgrade your machine will be just buying for the sake of spending money. you will could try to ask for a HD projector if you havent got one or a few bulbs if you have:D

Unless you actually use programs that are coded for multi-cores then going for a quad probably won't realistically speed up anything you do and with a Q6600 you'll need to overclock to the same sort of levels as your current CPU (easily done admittedly). You won't be losing anything by changing but I don't think you will gain too much either.

I'd perhaps consider another hard drive or possibly even a soundcard if you don't have one.

which cpu cooler are you using? you could probably get more out of your cpu with something like a tuniq tower or an arctic freezer 7 pro.

other than that, go quad now, or wait for the 45nm chips early next year.

I'd sit tight until the Penryns show up, you've got a board that'll handle the new quads so you might as well wait.

Nice to see another ATC-201 still going too :)
