Could spec me something decent for my car for around £150? Only a saxo, just want something half decent. Don't need any massive bass or anything. Cheers :)

You're going to really struggle at that budget, have you considered just doing a bit at a time, I was looking recently and you don't get even a reasonable head unit for under 100 or so, if you then need a set of components for the front and drivers for the rear you'll end up with some pretty poor stuff.

Could maybe buy some used stuff I guess

I've been looking at head units a lot recently, why can't you get a good one below £100? From what I've seen the technical specs in terms of sound quality hardly changes. Only features like bluetooth etc as it gets more expensive.

From what I've heard from friends, get a head unit and some front components on a small budget.

You've heard wrong ;) there's a substantial difference in sq between a noname £60 hu and a £150 alpine, and in terms of speakers, you're looking at £150+ for a decent set of components. Alternatively I guess you could just blow £40 on a set of halfords specials ;)

For that budget you won't get anything decent, you'd be looking at spending that purely on a headunit and then some decent components.

Well put it this way, I bought a Kenwood unit that's only just "decent" and it was about £150, I could have got an OK alpine or pioneer for similar cash - depends what your after I guess but I'm no audiophile and I could tell the massive quality difference

Spend £150 on a head unit. Believe me when I say that, compared to the original unit, it'll make the speakers shine.

Then spend a bit more on the speakers in the near future. :)

Ah okay then cheers for the tips! At least once I have the headunit I have a stereo to use until im able to buy some speakers, where should I start looking for headunits/ car audio in general? Any good sites. Cheers for the help :)

Im no expert on speakers so I wont recommend you anything there but you may want to invest in some sound deadening for inside the doors if its a saxo, that way you will be able to get the most out of your new speakers.

How many speakers/what size/type are you after?

If it's just front components you want, I'd go for some Hertz Energy ESK 165.5, or JL audio C2-650

If you want rears as well or a sub, then obviously you'd have to compromise on those though...
