Currently have FX8320, Asus M5A97 Evo and 8GB Viper Red ram.

Want to move to intel so looking for recommendations. Would also like to move up to 16GB of ram for future proofing, I would like this build to do me well for a good few years.

Budget around £500.

I've got some ideas but would be interested to hear what others would buy.

Thanks

Do you have a heatsink that fits socket 1155/56/50 etc? as the K series Skylake CPUs dont include one.

The board has lots of reviews,

Or spend more and get X99,

This requires a heatsink that has socket 2011 support.

Thanks Stu. Some good options.

What kind of fan control support do Gigabyte boards offer nowadays? At the moment I use Asus Fan Xpert and find it does everything I need quite nicely

I'm using an EK-Supremacy Clean CSQ CPU block which supports socket 2011 and 1150/1155/1156 - am I right in thinking that 1150 coolers fit 1151 mobos?

Finally, other than flexing my epeen, would an i7 5820k offer me much more gaming performance over a 6700k?

Socket 1151 is the same as 1155/56 etc.

There is BIOS fan control for voltage or PWM for most of the fan headers or you can install the APP center, then the SIV software and you can let SIV calibrate the fans and give you quiet to full speed options or manually set FIXED RPM per header.

In the BIOS you can set FULL speed for PUMPS etc.

SIV Calibration,

Allows these four options,

Or goto Advanced setting,

Click along the bottom to which fan header you want to adjust and you can set a fixed RPM,

Yep working perfectly, thank you. That looks just the job and the individual control is better than I have now.

Really helpful mate cheers. Will do some head scratching and made an order over the weekend I think.
