Hi all,
I am pretty much set on getting a Synology DS212J. Now I just need to decide on the HDDs.
Now the options as I see are:
- Samsung F4EG 2TB (£Baseline)
- Western Digital W20EARX 2TB (£+£10)
- Seagate LP ST2000DL003 2TB (£+11)
The F4EG appears to be liked around here and has been out a while so any opinions are much appreciated. I understand Samsung's HDD business is now under Seagate control. This kind of puts me off it a little give the Seagate's reputation around the internet (although I've never had a Seagate HDD so don't bear any personal grudges).
I'm edging towards the WD20EARX, despite the load cycle issue (which is easily fixed) and despite the slightly worse performance (which will it even matter in a NAS given the bottlenecks elsewhere??).
Any thoughts or opinions...
Which would you choose / have you chosen?
Ps finally, if I did buy a F4EG would it require a firmware update or do they come with it already now?
