Spec me headphones

I didn't think Skullcandy headphones were an "Audiophile" brand?

No they aren't. I'm sure they make some headphones that are better than others, but they haven't done themselves any favours with the style of their headphones, and by making headphones that place that style over the sound quality.

If they start making headphones that focus more on SQ, you are going to find most people will still see them as a headphone brand for people who like bling, and care not for sound quality.

You'll not find many recommending them, unless they love the street cred look.

If you're lucky you can find DT 770/880/990s around that price range (choice depending on the kind of sound you want) but otherwise you could look at some second hand stuff on some auction site.

If you can get some Beyerdynamics DT770s (or 880/990s) I'd go for them. Goldring are good but their headphones aren't exactly built to last and after just general wear and tear start cracking after a year or so, the DT770s on the other hand are built like a tank and sound exceptional compared to anything Goldring I own, not to mention that if you somehow manage to wreck something on them you can buy replacements!

Grado aren't that comfy in my opinion and have an odd sound signature but do get rave reviews by some people, a very Marmite headphone I'd say but possibly worth checking. Sennheiser are ok if you spend a fair amount but if you buy cheap they sound pretty awful. Bose are overpriced for what you get.
