Hey guys,

time to upgrade i think, as the title says, mobo, cpu and ram. i have the hdd, gfx, psu and everything else. i havnt got a set price yet but i dont want to spen loads, and i wouldnt like to go below a 6400 with the cpu. will be used for games so it needs to be medium/good. not botherd about the sound on the bored.

Thanks ;)

I'd get:

Asus P5N-E / P5B
Core 2 Duo 6400
Geil 2GB CAS 5 RAM (CAS 4 if you have any spare cash)
Thermalright Ultra 120

Why don't you want to go less than a 6400? You could get a 6300 OEM and save £30 - they'd probably clock to similar levels anyway.

interesting, i wasnt sure about overclocking the cpu at the moment, but with limited funds its probable the best way to go.
how far on avridge do they go (a e6300)?

wasnt to sure about that cooler though, are there any better or smaller ?

thanks for the reply

2.8 fairly easily.

What's your current GFX card?

If you get a Core 2 Duo, you HAVE to overclock it. It's really easy, and there's potentially a free 1GHz for you. You could probably manage more than 3GHz with the spec that I posted.

The Thermalright is a brilliant, pair it with a decent 120mm fan like a Noctua or Scythe at 7V and you've got a silent cooling solution that keeps your chip very cool. You could also look at the Tuniq Tower and Scythe Ninja.

In regards to CPU i would second going for a 43/6300 I would save the money and spend it on something like the Scythe Ninja for example.

Everyone is going nuts for the 8800 GTS.... I wish i waited a week and bought one instead of the x1950pro. I am so impressed with this card after upgrading from P4 and 6800 ultra system, so I would probably feel steam rolled with one of them
