Spec me mod friendly insurance

the best for me is always sky, chris knott and noel dazely. I play them off against eachother and do quite well. I pay _nothing_ extra for any of my mods on a like for like replacement basis , and no increase for my non fault accident or sp30.

I'm 25, 6 years NCB (Protected) 350 excess on my group 20 S2000, and I pay £700 in Central London.

Mods include

Tein Suspension, Cusco bracing (Front and rear ARB's, front and rear lower brace, front upper strut) powerflex polybushing, uprated brakes (DBA4000 discs, DS2500 pads)

Sky screwed me over on my agreed value policy on the Teg. I'd avoid them.

I remember your plight with the Teg vs Slk. That was (and I still think is) very harsh.

It seems that for every recommendation there is always someone who has been screwed over.

Will have a go with Noel Dazely then then play off the best quotes against each other.

Insurance is a nightmare, I'd better get a camera in my glovebox as well as a nice box of chocolates to flag down any possible witness with :D

Greenlight insured my MX5 (and currently my 147) which was highly modified (in terms of power, from stock to 236bhp, including, remap, turbo, intercooler, clutch, brakes, exhaust and manifold etc...) for under £500 FC. :)

Brentacre, I've got all my mods declared inc a remap, got a power limit of 220BHP (Golf 1.8t), lowered, alloys, exhaust, tints etc etc, made no difference to policy price of a standard car. I'm paying 480 fully comp, protected NCB, 200 quid excess.

Worth a call.

I was with Chris Knott previously, also good.

for the DC2 chris knott and sky are best reported.

the whole chris knott policy change is a weird one. they raised it from 21 to 22, and now some report it at 25.

although they didnt mention any of this when i rang up not long back (i'm 21) and they significantly blew everyone else out of the water with their quote. seems some get lucky and some don't.

oh and get some darn pics up of the DC2. good to see you made the right choice ;) ill take full responsibility of it :p

Well, I haven't bought it yet :p

Got a few on the cards so will most likely be contacting you DC2ers for some opinions on the cars I'm seeing :D

I'm with Quinn Direct, they only charge extra for performance mods.

For example, adding Coilovers, strut braces, Air filter, Exhaust, Collins Powerchip and Bigger brakes only cost me an extra £350.

Not bad IMO

WHAT? I added all that and guess what? It cost me £0

Sky insurance here, like for like on mods, and a great price for me. anything none performance enhancing they don't even charge an admin fee to add. and quoted me £150 extra for 200bhp, £200 extra for 250bhp.

mk1 mx5

7yrs no claims (will of course get this protected, but = more £££)

Save money and don't bother with protected ncb as it's a big con. When I used to work at directline we were strongly encouraged to get people to have it as it was profitable. To break even on the extra cost you'd need to be claiming approximately every 2-3 years and they wouldn't offer it if you had that sort of claim history.

It costs about £40, sure it's worth it?

It does increase the cost, but surely if I rear end someone then with it being protected, I win't lose it when I come to renewing?

Actually how will that work getting quotes, 7+ yrs no calims but with an accident listed in the past 'x' years?

No claims is only a discount on the base premium. If you claim that goes up. With protected ncb the ammount you actually pay goes up a little bit less.

I worked it out for myself and it's never made sense but for you it could be different. Just run two quotes on a comparision site. One with 5 years ncb and a fault accident and one the same but with 3 years ncb amd see what the cost difference is.

Have yet to do that, thanks for the info Gribs.

Plenty more Tegs have appeared on PH, but nigh on every one is in Staffordshire, or the damn North. Going to find the right car could cost ruddy £100s :D:D

Brentacre through (Markus Study?) just quoted me very happy. Well it seems pretty good.

£739 with £550 excess and guaranteed no claims.

Windscreen cover.
Courtesy car.
£100k legal.
£1500 key cover.

and................ ALL types of major mods covered and long as car remains below 220bhp (inc re-map and everything I want to do) :D
