I'd stick with the X2 since he already has it, if it was a straight choice between buying an X2 and an E2180 with equal potential for overclocking in the supplementary parts then I'd pick the E2180 because the pound/performance ratio is better. However since the CPU and motherboard have been bought there isn't much point in returning/selling it especially since the X2 isn't exactly slow.
