Over the years I've accumulated a number of SSD's and am thinking of getting just one 1TB NVMe drive for everything, i.e. OS and games etc.

Currently in my PC are 3 x Samsung SATA3 SSD's and one quite old Samsung PM961 M.2 128GB drive. I also like the fact that I wont need to run SATA/Power cables to 3 different drives. I could also sell the older drives to help fund the newer one. :D

I'm also looking to upgrade my motherboard at some point to a B550M.

Has anyone got any recommendations as to which NVMe drive to go for?

thanks

Corsair 600 and Sabrent PCIE4 for speed imho, all depends whether you want out and out speed as there's some similar to your current SSD's and can be had for a bargain. a lot of people go WD Blue

I've been looking at nvme drives too. Is gen 4 not worth the extra? I kind of feel as my X570 board supports it, maybe I should cough up the extra for future proofing.

The gen 4 1tb sabrent rocket looks a reasonable choice at around £170.

Gen4 is capable of doing nearly 7000Mb read/writes. Think the current best controller they’re only doing 5500/4400Mb.

Gen3 is plenty for a while still. I wouldn’t invest in Gen4 NVMe until the newer controllers come out that can take full advantage of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth.

Also for the prices to come down! Unless there starts to become actual benefits in games where it’d be worth a premium...

I have a 1TB NVME and I'm thinking I need one big 2TB one instead, so there's that to consider! :D

Adata SX8200 Pro is also a decent drive. Comes with an heatsink included. 30 odd quid more than the SN550.
