I'd recommend Petplan http://www.petplan.co.uk/, most of the vets recommend these as well.

They do "multi pet" to which is good as we will have 2 King Charles Cavalier Spaniels come May.

I insure mine with the Kennel Club who have been great. Excess is £50 if fully comp + less 10% of the bill but they do pay for all medication and prescriptions so it evens out.
payment is fast too and I believe there is an option whereby the vet can be paid direct by the insurers. Have a looki......

Kennel Club looks very good, but isn't cheap!

I guess it's looking at a less comprehensive one like Direct Line vs something like Kennel Club that covers everything under the sun... hmm
