Spec me: Pillows

Ive managed to finally settle with a memory foam pillow. Ive had it for about a year now and its not changed shape or anything. Of course, not everyone likes them, my wife for one refuses to sleep on a memory foam pillow.

I've done a lot of mix and matching, and settled on a tempur cloud on top of a silentnight latex core.

Still not perfect, but after spending and £200 over the past 2 years it will do.

Spend the money on a real feather/down pillow from somewhere like JL or M&S. You’ll need to work out if you prefer hard or medium though

I just can't get on with feather/down, I need support for my seemingly heavier-than-it-should-be head.

It also doesn't help that I am a mixed sleeper, alternating between back/front/side sleeping, so need more pillow height when on side, and less on back/front.

Probably why my current set-up kinda works, I can sink in to the tempur when on back, but still get support on side.

It's good you've recognised how you sleep - that's the most important step to finding the right setup for sleep :)

I bought an £80 feather/down pillow from JL. It's lovely, but now I prefer something harder, so will be buying their firm version of it this xmas - JL vouchers on my xmas list :-)

have you checked if you can get the same pillow anywhere else for cheaper? I have noticed recently that JL tend to inflate their prices for the same items. Like the latex pillow mentioned above, its £55-£60 pretty much everywhere, but at JL it's £70!

It's their own branded pillow; I swear by their branded linen, mattresses and pillows. Always find them extremely well made and last me longer than anything else I've come across.

I've got a couple of Otty pillows and love them. I've been through lots as well and these are my favourites. Couldn't get in with their mattress though!

agree per earlier post that not all JL stuff is good value.

but - finding the same pillows gets back to the 50:50 gamble post ... not all goose feathers are from the same quality of bird and (like cpus) they may have been binned;
so one shops 70%goose is not the same as another .... and taking back the dam things if they are rubbish/rip-off is nigh impossible.
I would be a lot more mercenary though, if we purchased from JL again.

Duck pillows, and, some even have chicken ?, are not as firm as, most expensive, goose; but that's the same for their insulating&durability in a naturel duvet.

I've been interested in foam pillows as you don't need to fluff them up but concerned about factory chemical smell of the foam being annoying.

I never smelt any chemical smell? Just neutral, what I find with feather filled pillows is when you wash them a few times they tend to clump together and they arnt as comfortable

It goes away after a few days of removing it from the packaging. I had a shredded memory foam pillow and it stunk at first, but the smelt completely went away. Some cheaper pillows can take longer for the smell to dissipate if the online reviews are anything to go by.

I found with the shredded memory foam pillow I had, I still had to fluff it up from time to time as the foam settles and compresses a bit. This is why I'm looking into getting the latex pillow posted earlier in the thread, but £55 is a lot to drop on a pillow..

I know they are expensive but these pillows are AWESOME!

I used to suffer from problems in the neck but since I have had one of these I would never go back to another pillow

ever seen those weirdos in airports carrying their pillow around? You will turn into one of them with this one lol

I need a new pillow, I have 2 feather ones at the moment but they are getting super uncomfortable and all clumpy.

With the above do you use two pillows or just the one?

Would like to get away with just using one pillow if possible, providing it stays supportive.

This, we use them too. Best bed related purchase ever.

And yes, we both only ever use one, they're really thick.
