hey guys. looking to spend around £1000. going to be using for a little gaming, mainly multi tasking and video editing etc. basically, built my own pc 2years ago on a friends spec and he recommended a 754 socket and agp gxc, so having to change everything now as my processor is playing up. so what im really looking for is as much futureproofing as possible and obviously going to be running vista on it when thats out. dont need optical drives or hardrives, or any peripherals. also, may be relevant that im using a 32inch hd lcd as my main monitor. other thing is, i could possibly keep the psu from current rig, its a tagan 480w and maybe the case, an asus coolermaster but if any of those 2 might hinder the other components than dont worry about keeping them in the spec

thanks guys

it only does 720p so it will go upto 1366x768. is that going to be problem for the 8800

The 8800gts is probably overkill for that sort of resolution rather than anything else but if you have the cash then there is no harm in it. You don't really need a 700w PSU at the moment but I suppose if you might want to go for SLi in the future it won't hurt either.

my other concern is to do with the fact that im keeping my case. as mentioned, its an asus coolermaster. worried about everything fitting in it and also, this is my first pc build, so not sure about the mobo and case compatibility. is there anything i need to be aware of or looking for or will it be fine

I think you may be a shade confused on the case there, Asus and Coolermaster are separate brands and I don't think Asus would name a case of theirs after the brand name of a (sometime) competitor). If the case supports the ATX standard then you should be fine in terms of fitting the motherboard in, depending on the drive bay positioning then you may have to be careful about the graphics card as some are quite large. Maybe a quick email to your case manufacturer would help as they might be able to confirm if the combination works. :)

For that budget build new! Besides that PSU is cutting it too low especially with a 8800GTX (see here). Case I also recommend new because newer ones have better design meaning better airflow while still quiet!
