Hi,

I have £350 - £400 for a build, wondering if you chaps can spec me up!

I do a fair bit of office work but would also like to do some FPS / RPG when stressed.

I have a Dell U2713 which would be nice working in proper res (I presume Dual-link DVI-D). Keyboard, mouse and 1TB sata hd (though happy to replace).

As far as I can ascertain, I need: Mobo, RAM, SSD?, CPU, case and psu.

Might be pushing my luck for this price, though happy to source second hand or new but older parts.

A tiny bit over budget, but this should give you plenty speed playing most modern FPS games at med-high settings. (Fast RAM helps these APUs). SSD to improve loading times.

Plus with future expansion in the future to plop in a GFX card to hybrid-crossfire with the CPU.

All backed by a stable PSU to ensure your parts work safely.

I'm new to speccing tho, and I'm sure one of the more experienced guys should be able to spec alternatives.

Over budget but the GPU comes with a MEGA games bundle. You could flog off some of the games to recoup some cashback. You can add an SSD later on as an upgrade.

Trinity or Richland has a good IGP but it's gonna struggle with that high res panel so you'll want to drop in a GPU at some point most likely. You want the fastest RAM possible to feed the IGP. Richland is the newer APU but the mobos might need a BIOS update to use it. It's not a massive improvement over Trinity anyway.

Modular PSU and the case is a better alternative to the Bitfenix Merc as it has more fans & USB3 for the same price ;)

I personally have that blacknight 7870 and it's awesome, I can max most games on 1080p with fairly decent fps also! the VTX does also give it a run for it money as it uses the same architecture as the 7950, just clocked at lower speed but essentially is faster than the 7870. However, I know two people who have the VTX card and they say it can run hot and noisy. Let us know which road you decide to go on and all the best with your build...! :)
