Lo all,

I currently work for a small Marketing Agency (10 employees) and we're in the process of updating our software to improve efficiency etc.

We're all Mac based and to manage projects we currently use the following software:

Co-Efficient – This is a Filemaker database driven tool, tailored for design agencies, which handles everything from keeping contact details, managing 'job bags', invoicing as well as a diary/calendar, purchase orders, timesheets and employee information. We use Co-Eff for all of our internal management.

Basecamp – This is a web based project management tool by 37signals (some of you may know it) We use Basecamp on projects where the client needs remote access. It allows you to set milestones and 'To-Do' lists, upload files, post messages and it has a simple text editor which can be updated by multiple authors.

Google Calendar – The diary system in Co-Eff is horrible to use and can't be *easily* accessed remotely so we made the switch to Google Calendar at the start of this year.

Co-Eff is now very old and the creators have recently contacted us about upgrading it. There's no doubt that we could use an update but it's not cheap and it doesn't do everything that we want it to.

We find ourselves doubling up on admin across the three pieces of software which is both time consuming and can lead to mistakes being made.

What we really need is a single piece of software that has the power of Co-Eff with the interface and accessibility of Basecamp as well as the complex calendar management of Google Calendar.

One thing we've looked at is using some of the other software which is compatible with Basecamp such as Freshbooks for Invoicing etc. However, there's a lot of combinations of software and it would mean multiple subscriptions to various pieces of software rather than having everything in one place.

What do you lot use and what would you recommend?

Not really a 'spec you' post, but have a look at the list of project management software nicely summarised here:

http://www.softaculous.com/softwares/projectman

There are probably more out there, but i posted that link cos its lists quite a few and has summary of what they have and do.

I use DotProject, first one on that list. Nice bit of software that sits on a webserver and very easy to setup and maintain.

Cheers for the suggestions lemonade and the recommendation KoR.

I've had a quick look into DotProject which looks promising but it's a bit worrying that it doesn't look as though it's been updated since July 2008.

Will look further down the list when I get a chance.
