Can somebody help me to choose some decent brake pads that will last a lot longer please.
I had my most recent bike in September but after 50 miles of riding a week I ended up having to buy these on November 8th - www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/pics3/vbrakepads.jpg

Since that date I've had another 50 miles a week except for over a month where I've used another bike and these new ones are now nearly down to metal.
I do use a lot of braking on my commute, it isn't a straight road but lots of different areas where I get up to speed and then have to slow down so it isn't like a Sunday morning ride where I might use brakes a couple of times.

So what do you suggest please?
I don't mind paying that bit extra to save money.
I've seen brake pads where you just change the pad itself which can work out cheaper.

eh? 50 miles? you either have your pads rubbing against the rim or you keep your brake lever pressed while riding?(i know sounds dumb but don't you have an elec bike?)

even me, commuting in london and breaking LOTS my pads last 400-600 miles

Even so, think I go through a set of pads a year, which is like 5k + miles.

I have 4 bikes but 90% of the time use my non electrics.
Even when I use the electric it is off except for one bank.

Well that's about right then, Nov 8th to now means I've done around 700 miles as a quick rough estimate so I really shouldn't be compaining.

I guess if your using an ebike though your stopping probably 2-3x the weight of a normal bike so I'm surprised the second set lasted so long or you learned to man up and stop braking so much :P

It can be very rider and riding specific though. I remember when I was a teenager using my MTB as my general transport around the local villages. I wasn't really doing many miles but I got through pads at a huge rate (way less than 500 miles a set).

These days I barely wear my pads at all.

I buy these from Wiggle when they're on offer for my Hybrid and the Mrs' City Bike. Last couple of sets I had for £1.50 a pair so I stocked up!

They're better quality (better braking and last longer) than the ones Halfords would sell her for £15 a pair with 'free fitting'. They look exactly the same as the last set she had from there too...

I have coolstop salmons on my road bikes but they're not V's ;)

These came today -

KoolStop salmons tbh. tend to last me a year, picked up some of the cheaper clarks ones and they are TERRIBLE in comparison, no faith in their abilities and seem not to cling to the rim when breaking, just rub!

Very light road bike: 7Kg + me = 85Kg.
Rather heavy e-bike: 28kg + me = 105kg.

I see a 20% difference in weight to be stopped, not 2-3x ?
