Spec me some drill bits

Hi everyone

I got a drill for Christmas (a DeWalt DCD778M2T). I need some drill bits to go with it.

I live in an old house where as soon as I drill through the plaster and hit the brick, my old drill simply would not go through it, but I will also be using the drill for other day-to-day stuff.

Can anyone recommend me some bits that are not astronomically priced that will deal with the masonry issues I've had?

Cheers

Chris

These are relatively high rev drills with small impact, so they chew through drill bits. There's little point in buying expensive bits because it will wear them out just the same. Having said that, a small pack of dewalt masonry bits can be had at a reasonable price. The most common sizes you need are 4,6,7,8 and 10mm. There isn't really any point in getting a huge set that covers all sizes.
When it comes to other materials, wood bits are generally poor quality and wear out very fast. It's better either buying slightly better quality or just using metal bits instead. Sizes are the same as the masonry bits.
Kits are usually to be avoided because they contain metal and wood bits, and the wood bits are usually poor, so you end up using the metal bits instead. Also, they include sizes you will probably never use.
There is an advantage to spending more on wood or metal bits, that's up to you.
I usually buy Bosch. They have a reasonable range at good prices. They do a 7 piece masonry drill bit set that can be had for less than £6 and a metal drill bit set for £8. Bosch also do a 7-piece concrete drill bit set for £15, which, as the name suggests, is for concrete rather than masonry.

I echo what Spellowhouse has said, don’t go expensive and just use and replace. I used to fit key safes for people, 4 key safes, 16 holes and replace the bit. Erbauer, DeWalt or Bosch, whoever have an offer on. Size 6 and 8 will be your most used

Thanks everyone. I've bought a small kit of common-sized metal bits and same size masonry bits with the expectation they'll not last.

Appreciate the help :)

I've had a few sets of the Erbauer 150 multi pack from Screwfix, they seem as good as any for the price.

Main thing with the larger ones is to sharpen them frequently

For brick and concrete I would have recommended an SDS drill and Hilti bits, but as others have said, just keep replenishing your 6mm and 8mm bits with any decent brand that's going cheap at Screwfix.
