Spec me some games that lasted LONGER than you expected?

Ignoring multiplayer games, I'd say the following were pretty weighty:

-Chaser (has something approaching 40 levels)
-Unreal (30+ levels, some of which were much bigger in scale than other games of that era)
-GTA:SA. Knew it would take a while based on the earlier games, but there's a lot of 'extras' in there too to suck up time
-Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Some of the battles can last for hours; it's not quite as refined as Soulstorm.
-Doom3. For a groundbreaking FPS, this is fairly heavyweight at around 18hrs iirc. I think once I got to hell I assumed it was going to end soon.

There are other long games around like KOTOR, Deus Ex and Far Cry, but I pretty much expected that from them.

I loved Chaser even though it was not that popular. Graphics were great in its day and was the first FPS to do slow mo bullet time.

Baldhurs' gate 1+2 + expansions + tutu mod.

Costs less than £20 for the lot if you look around and will take hundreds of hours to do everything. It just kept going and going too, constant plot twists and unforeseen events.

second this. Cant beat going from a level 1 weakling in BG1 to a god in throne of bhaal

Operation Flashpoint.

I knew it had a mission editor, but I never thought it could be quite as good fun as it was. I may get my housemate to install it and we can have tractor races over the internet again. Ahhhh fun times.

If we include mods, the original Half-Life probably wins for me.

I played so many mods I can't remember them all. Dozens of them, many pretty good.

Darkstar
Todesangst
Poke 646
They Hunger I, II and III
Blue Shift
Azure Sheep
Heart of Evil
HL: Invasion
Chemical Existence
The time-travelling ice-age one and its sequel

Those are just the ones I remember. Absolutely incredible longevity I got from that game. Kept me going for bloody ages!

I have to say Oblivion! I just keep downloading more and more mods to get more from the game! It's the game that keeps on giving though obviously massive props to the community for that one :)

(Recent I know but) Also Left 4 Dead....in a way I was really surprised as even although there are only 4 campaigns and 2 versus campaigns at present that game just reeks of playability due to the community aspect and it must be one of the few games iv spent serious hours on in the last few years.
