spec me some games

Whats your computer like i.e. specs? And im guessing youve had consoles already (since you just say new to pc gaming) so have you played many fps and rts games on those? Looking at recent titles or would be happy with some older ones too?

If you like rts games then i highly recommend the Company of Heroes games.

As for fps games: Crysis/BFBC2/Left 4 Dead 1+2/Stalker games.

Left 4 Dead is a great place to start as it's easy to play either alone, with friends, with strangers or with other OcUK'ers.

Starcraft 2's a newer release RTS that's become very successful. Worth having a look at if you're into RTS.

If you're into grand-scale RTS, then look no further than Supreme Commander (with Forged Alliance expansion).

Heading back into FPS town, The Orange Box is a must have. Some of the best releases from valve for a great price: Half Life 2, HL2:E1, HL2:E2, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

I'd also recommend getting the original Half-Life with its expansions. It's old, but well worth playing through IMO.

If you're happy with older releases then certainly check out Deus Ex. Probably the best game ever made, and still readily available on steam. Deus Ex 3 is coming out soon, so there's some incentive to give the earlier games a chance :)

There are so many more recommendations I'd like to give but I'd rather not bog you down so I'll leave it there i think :)

FPS:
Deadspace - no one has a bad word to say about it. Fact!
+1 L4D 1 and 2
Modern Warfare (single player)
Crysis
Doom 3

RACING:
Split Second
Dirt
Grid
Burnout Paradise

THIRD:
Prototype

Just curious - how can you like rts and be new to pc gaming?

I genuinely didn't think you could play rts on anything other than a pc (or mac).

The total war games are great. I personally prefer medieval ii over thermite recent empire and napoleon.

Wolfenstein on the PC can be had for less than a tenner now and is abit of a hidden gem. Been playing it myself most of yesterday and its superb. Definately recommend picking it up as its got some of the most satisfying weaponry since turok on the N64!

Team fortress 2, with u mates it's really really good. (fps)

rts's suck balls imo, you win you loose it all,
you loose you loose it all, = crap, no progression :/

My brother loves rts's,s he's playing star craft 2, its boring as ***** but he seem's to like it

also he likes RUSE, and so do i from the looks of it.

The new Wolfenstein?

I keep forgetting about the new release, need to buy that soon since the reviews pretty much all said it wasn't epic in proportions but it was just pure and simple fun to play. I remember getting it mixed up with Singularity at the time, that's another I need to have a bash on.

Anno 1404
Defence grid the awakening
Plants vs zombies
company of heroes ( if you buy tales of valour only, that gives you full multiplayer content)
Borderlands
