You'll probably get quite a kick out of Borderlands, although I think that's about the same age as Prototype that you mentioned. Still a friggin' good game though. And it does have good extension packs.

What's that about mate? what kind of game as it?

One of the big things I enjoyed about Prototype is that is was a non stop rush, kinda "GO GO GO" feeling to it if that helps?

I wish I could, but I have no real comparisons to offer. It's got quite a sense of urgency with loads of stuff to do. Completing tasks continually opens new areas that then open new tasks themselves.
Thankfully not heavy on story (just as Prototype wasn't all that much) but lets you get down to business straight away.
I find the cell-shaded graphics great, making the game quite unique without losing anything.
Perhaps you should take a look at some youtube, that might give you a bit of an idea.

Hi guys,

I used to game a lot back in't day but haven't done so properly.

I used to really enjoy FPS like:

Counterstrike Source
Day of Defeat
Call Of Duty 4
Half Life 2
Doom 3

Also RPGs, Strategy games, Puzzle/Adventure games such as

Prince of Persia Trilogy
Prototype (the most recent game I played in sense of how old it is)
Zelda games (I know they aren't on the pc but hey)
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Red Alert/C&C
Big fan of the Splinter Cell games.

Also got right into EVE: Online and City Of Heroes too...

So I guess that gives you an idea of what I like, I don't like games like Oblivion, tried it, thought it was crap.

Recently with a new job I work with a lot of avid gamers so I want to get my teeth stuck right in and get some hours in! What would you recommend?

My rig can pretty much run anything so no need to worry about that

The following PC games are all pretty solid, some are amazing:

Fallout 3 (one of the best games ever made hybrid RPG/Action game. Avoid Fallout New Vegas its horrible)

Grand Theft Auto 4 (needs a decent PC but looks ok especially with mods & the game area is vast)

Dead Rising 2 (great zombie rpg/action game)

Lost Planet2 (Stunning DX11 gfx & lengthy co-op/mp/sp game modes)

Resident Evil 5 (great co-op or sp game)

Call Of Duty Mordern Warfare 2 (avoid Black Ops its crap)

Bioshock 1 (avoid the sequel its rubbish)

Prince Of Persia 2008 (avoid the 2010 game its rubbish)

Splinter Cell Conviction (short but well made & best played on a decent PC)

Dead Space 1 & 2 (terrific space based survival horror action games)

Batman Arkham Asylum (almost perfect arcade action game)

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 (almost perfect arcade racer looks great on PC as well)

Street Fighter 4 (flawless arcade beat em up)

Assassins Creed1 (part 2 is not as good)

Kane & Lynch 2 (short but very adult content/gritty atmosphere)

Star Wars Force Unleashed 1 (part 2 is not as good but part1 is light Jedi Outcast lite with great Star Wars gfx/sound but hack n slash gameplay which I loved as I love Star Wars).
