hi all

im looking for a new graphics card to replace my dead 9800gt 512mb

getting some money in roughly 3 weeks so want to start eyeing up n checkin the market so i know what to buy

so im in need of 1 graphics card (about £200) preferably ati as will crossfire in few years most ilkely

and no point creating a thread for this as theres no sub section for it but also need.. well more of want a new keyboard for gamin (a key no longer has an "a" on it) rilling to spend £50 on this)

so what you guys recon id be better off with?

was thinking of trying to squeeze a 2gig 6950 for the price as some apear to still be unlockable so.. cant beat that performance for price :p

I will say the 6950 rev 1 so it can be flashed to the 6970, they are £200 and support up to 4 monitors at once.

Some people would say get the gtx 480.

I had both to test and I liked the 6950 flashes to 6970..

yea thats my reason for wanting one tbh

hen in few years 6970's will be dirt cheap n i casn crossfire :D

does model not matter? or is this just personal preference/which is cheapets/best warranty?

your psu is quite a beefy one so i would suggest taking the High Horse power 480, somthing like This just depends if your a Nvidia Fan or AMD. Personally i am Nvidia as i play FSX and AMD does not perform too well with FSX

Overrall, I found the 480soc was really high on temps, idle at 50'c full loaded at 90'c, performance for the 480soc fps on black ops was min of 80ish max out 400fps at some points of the map, avg 180fps.
The 6950/70 was about the same on performance as the 480soc but the temps was better, idle 30'c fully loaded at 70'c.
With 5850 temps was 60'c at fully load 30'c at idle, performance is no where near as good as the 2 card above.

well i aint really a fan boy.. will go for what ever but my motherboard supports crossfire so.. be nice to have that option in few years

+ sli scaling ucks in comparison to crossfire scaling (especialy with 6series cards)

cheers for opinions/ideas/suggestions tho :) keep em comin, always good to hear more :p

I would recommend the 480. I'm not a nvidia fanboy having come from 2 X 4870's and a 5970 previously. TO be honest my 480 performs worse in benchmarks but it's great because I don't have issues with drivers (you will with AMD Xfire - I don't care what anyone says) and the performance seems consistent across most games.

I don't think you will have issues with one 6970 however I think a single 480 would be a better bet + you will save yourself almost £100.

your 6950/70 is not faster than a 480.

i did not say that, I found on my system that the 6950/70 was better for me!.
There was only a few FPS in it from the 480 SOC and the 6950/70.
6950/70 was a lot more better with its temps then the 480soc adn a lot less power hungry.

Thats is why i kept the 6950/70 and will say get the it over the 480 SOC.

Get the 6950 2gb. You are used to ati/amd cards and going nvidia will not give you any real benefits, so stick with what you know. You also have a crossfire board which is another reason to go for the 6950.

I see no real reason to go for an nvidia card with all you have said above.
