Hey OcUK

I've just moved house and up until I moved, I had been using my TV to play audio from my PC. I've got an LG32LX2R LCD, and I was just using standard speakers, but since I've moved the PC is located further away from the TV and to be rather honest, the sound quality from the TV is a bit tinny and not good enough for my liking so I am after an upgrade. I will also be building up a media centre PC to use with my TV in future, and have plans to purchase a surround sound kit for the TV to use with this, but that'll happen at a later date.

So anyway, I'm now after purchasing some 2.1 speakers that are good quality, for use with gaming and listening to music. I have some Speedlink Medusa 5.1 surround headphones which I use when gaming for voice comms, but when I play games that don't use voice comms I would like to have the sound through my speakers instead so that I can have the freedom to do other things at the same time (like have the TV on in the background for example). I don't want to spend loads on a set of 2.1 speakers. I'd say my budget lies between £50 - £100 but I'd be happy if I could keep it at around the £50 mark. Looking at what's on offer currently at OcUK, there are quite a few to choose from, but obviously until you've tried them all, you have no idea what their quality will be like. So I'm asking advice from you all about what you would recommend, and whether you think it would be worth stretching to the £90 - £100 price tag that speakers like the 3 THX certified ones from OcUK have.

Cheers for your time all :)

Kef Q15 with a Rotel amplfier. Poo over the AE's, you don't need a sub either. For a budget speaker system I would avoid a subwoofer totally as usually so low sound quality it'll just be one noted boomy bass machine. :)

Agreed.

If you plan to have a surround sound setup for your TV, you might as well start it early by buying a second hand set of hi-fi speakers and an amp. This can be used as part of a future setup for your HTPC. If you buy bookshelf type speakers these can be used in the future as rears for a larger surround sound setup. The amp won't be wasted either, as this can be used in conjunction with an AV amp for the front speakers to enhance stereo and music performance. If you hunt around a bit and are careful you can easily get a decent amp and speakers for £100 or even less. They will also kick PC speaker arse, especially for music.
