I am after some decent, comfortable headphones mainly for listening to music, and playing the electric guitar.

What do you guys reccommend? Budget really isnt an issue. Like the sound of 5.1 / 7.1 surround sound headphones, would I benefit from them? :)

No. 5.1 headphones are a gimmick. Theres still 2 speakers and it just uses virtual rubbish

Get some good stereo headphones. If budget is no issue then i imagine that Sennheiser hd 800 are good.

Goldring dr150 are supposed to be good for the price

It saddens me that people believe these 5.1 headsets will be good. It saddens me that they are marketed as fantasitc 5.1 sound in your ears, when they are not.

Well budget must play some part, if not, then the Senn HD800 would be good. But I'm guessing forking out $1400 isn't the most fun thing to do, even for good phones.

You must have some idea though of the minimum you want to spend, and the maximum?

Do you intend to use the phones connected to a PC sound card at all, or do you plan to use them with a stereo or amplifier kind of setup?

There's a range of good phones than can be had if budget is no issue, but it depends what you want to connect them to.

5.1 suck I had razor pair they were crap, bought Sennheiser HD650 and I have a 8grand home cinema setup in my lounge and the HD650 gives me a similar sort of sound from just headphones match them with a DAC and wow they are comfortable and every time I put them on i am amazed at the sound I get from them.

Look at Headfi for reviews and forums for more info.

HD800s are good but they're pretty fussy about their source. The Ultrasone Edition 8 would be my choice, though electro statics and the Grado PS1000. Don't forget cable mods either, at the top end balanced cable mods start to become worth it which can add a couple 100 with top end cable and dual XLRs.

Remember you have to look at the whole setup not just the cans on their own so tell us how much you're willing to put down on the entire setup (HD800 or U8 setup would cost atleast 3 grand in total).

Very good advice form Titaniumx3. Yes a lot of people on Head-fi own or have owned many different phones, and they could give some good advice as to which phones to get depending on the source and which music type you listen to.
