Spec me some ice cream!

I've defrosted my fridge, there's nothing in the icebox and I want to put some ice cream in there. :) I was going to buy some haagen dazs cookies and cream as it's one of my favourites. It's £4.50 for a 500ml tub. I don't mind paying that but I was wondering if supermarket own finest brands 500ml tubs at half that price are as nice as Haagen Dazs or even Ben and Jerrys?

Any recommendations? There's tons of flavours obviously, not sure what else to go for. Considering things like cookie dough, salted caramel, possibly creme brulee but unlikely.

They are rubbish, aerated cheapo muck.
Stick to Hagen Daze, getting good ice cream these days is hard.
Even Ben and Jerry ice cream sucks, hidden by the huge amounts of flavourings.

Strawberry cheesecake, praline and cream and crème Brule are my favourites.

Thanks Glaucus, I'll stick with HD then. Yeah, I don't mind Ben and Jerry but I do find HD has a more refined taste. Tempted by all those flavours you mentioned tbh. But I like ice cream to have 'bits' in them, like the cookies and cream. Actually, morrisons are doing the cookies and cream for £3. I'm sure I once had a cookie dough by HD but I haven't seen them in my local supermarkets recently. Has pralines and cream got chewy bits?

Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Caramel Brownie looks very yummy, have you tried it?

Can't say I have, never seen it, but now want to go have a look.
I'm the opposite. Little bits like crushed up cookies, spoil the smooth texture of the ice cream.

Oh and mouth is fine now. Good hot food. Cooking was a different matter. You did at least pic the best ben and jerries though. With the least messing about and most ice cream.

I wish there was more decent ice cream but every man and there dog now aerated them. It gives soft scoop, and it's cheaper to make/sell as it's like 40% air, but it's not ice cream, it doesn't have that melting feeling.

Ben & Jerry's Caramel Chew Chew and save some for Glaucus, his mouth is still on fire...

;)

Sounds nice. How about their core peanut butter me up,

"With a core of raspberry jam surrounded by peanut butter & vanilla ice creams with peanut butter cup chunks nestled in there too"

Or core blondie brownie,

"blondies nestled in vanilla ice cream & brownies in chocolate ice cream, all surrounding a salted caramel core."

I've tried their core peanut butter... It was ok nothing great.

Sorry not tried the other one :)

I'll avoid the peanut butter then. Hmm, still undecided. I should just buy a whole bunch of them, but that would be silly, too decadent, too fattening, and too expensive. I want the cookies and cream, but I want something salty too. The vanilla caramel brownie is tempting though not sure I need swirls of caramel.
Life is definitely at it's most difficult when choosing ice cream. :D

Wait a sec, you said strawberry cheesecake is one of your faves. That has biscuit in it. :p

Tesco Finest Lombardy Mascarpone Gelato. I don't eat a lot of Ice Cream but it took me minutes to finish the tub. I had to put it in the micowave first, though.

I used to love B&J's chocolate macadamia... But I think they've stopped making it :(

I bought some of the new B&J Greek style raspberry chocolate chunk but not tried it yet. Sounds delish though *dribble*..

Tried B&J's Karamel Sutra? My fav out of the entire core range :D

Haagen Dazs Tiramisu is unbelievable.

I'm also a big fan of the Peanut Butter Me Up you asked about, but I'm a peanut butter addict so that might have something to do with it :o

Always tend to have some Mackies in the freezer though.

Tiramisu  where do you guys find these flavours. Why can't Hagen Daz do rum and raisin.

And Kelly Cornish sucks. More designed to look traditional, but is aerated muck.
If you want muck ice cream, then the golden syrup one is pretty nice.
