Hi again!

Want to treat ny x79 setup to some better memory so have been looking about and I'm not too sure on what to get...

Had my eye on patriot viper black mamba 2133mhz 11-11-11-27 1.5v
G.skill ares 2133mhz 11-11-11-27 1.6v ( also fits my colour scheme)
And some of the ripjaws sets

Any other recommendations and why? Looking to spend ~£120 on 16GB.

It might help to understand a bit more about your setup. CPU and OC details would help guage which end of the market you should be looking at. I can see the CPU in your sig but no idea what you're running it at.

My apologies, currently running at 4.75ghz, wail be perhaps taking it higher if I can sort some of the voltages.

G.SKILL is quality RAM in X79 its very compatible.

I have the 2133mhz 9-11-10-28 Ripjawz and they are excellent in term sof both stability, tuning and Overclock-ability.

seen good speeds with the teamgroup extreem memory idk how well they do on x79??

tbh the samsung green offer the best performance for the money, would match the gskill with less dram voltage,

The Team Group 2133mhz 9-11-10 will also be a great kit of Hynix. Samsung Greens are good but they have no XMP so you have to be able to tune them yourself and they are not specified to run at anything above 1600mhz. You pay your money and make your choice for such an expensive platform I would get the "better" RAM.

Thats similar thoughts to what I've had 8 Pack, the Samsung Green looks great but I would prefer something with XMP, at least then I have a platform to work from.

Whats the OC like on the Team Group kits? As this kit looks almost ideal, within budget and great specs. The OC will be minimal, just what ever the 1.25x stap adds which I guess with a 18.66x memory MP will only be around 1hz :p

1.25 strap, 2000 0r 2333mhz are whats available. Just push the BLK on the 2000 divider or Tune for 2333mhz. Not sure the IC on that Kit though, thats why I said GSKILL as I know they are Hynix and do 2333mhz easy with correct tuning.

Not sure also what options are available for memory tuning on a Giga board but I presume it will be well featured at the UD7 level.

Will have a good look at the G.Skill kits then, I do see them get recommended a fair bit :)

I was originally looking at this kit.

I'm flexible with the straps, as what ever I do I need to use straps to push the CPU, a little off topic but why is it recommended to drop the bclk to ~90 when using the 1.67 strap?

Edit: And yes the UD7 has a wealth of options for the memory, many of which I have never seen before!

Edit 2: Will almost certainly be buying better memory on Friday, my chip is incredibly limited by the memory to the point where reducing speed or slackening the timings voids the increased core clock by bclk tweaking. Had everything running fine at 4.85ghz, as a result had to either drop the memory down to ~1400mhz or super slack timings of 13-12-13-35-2T for 1700mhz.

a lot of CPU dont like the 1.67 strap. Yes you will need to drop the BLK back. I would use the 1.25 strap my experience with the 3820 suggests this is the best option.

I have that exact kit running day in day out in my desktop works superbly stable even when tightened up quality Hynix IC that clock well.

Cheers, I'll grab that kit on Friday then :)

What voltage/speed/timing are you running on them?

I'll stick with the 1.25 strap and adjust the base to get the memory up to speed.

I run DDR2400 9-12-12-28 1T,1.675v. I think!!

I change components so often I cant fully remember.

Cheers, now I need to flip a coin to decide on the Ripjaws or the Xtreem LV.

From what I can make out the teamgroup memory is pretty much in the same boat as gskill with regards to how the memory is screened etc...so I may just go for the Xtreem LV, if it stinks I'll DSR and get the Gskill, then we know either way if its decent memory to recommend in the situation :)

Forum spam, awesome.

On another note I've now decided to go for the 8GB (4x2GB) kingston HyperX 2400mhz, this should give me all the room I need to to clock the CPU without going over the memorys limits :D

according to the item description its XMP certified for P67, Z68, Z77 & X79 :)

This is the kit I am looking at

My thinking behind this is that I calculated I'd be running around the 2333mhz mark, or there abouts, this kit would prevent me having to ride my luck a little OC'ing 2133mhz modules :)

Found a good HardwareHeaven review on these, even compare them to my current memory! They managed to get 10-11-10-27-2T @ 2400mhz from them, seems ideal for me as i'd be running them slightly underclocked with tighter timings anyhow :)

We will see, if it doesn't live up to expectation I can always sell it on and save for a few weeks for some TridentX :)

If I can get somewhere around 10-10-10-27-2T at the lower speed of 2333mhz I'll be over the moon :D

While your about 8 Pack, how important is the tRFC timing? I notcied on my current memory its running at ~148, seems a little high in the grand scheme of things.

Its PSC it does not do flat timings.

My PSC will do 7-11-7-25 1T at 2444mhz with very tight subs at 1.85v !!!! :0
