Spec me some quiet PWM fans

Hi,

I'm looking for some quiet and good airflow PWM fans which have the same or better performance with less noise as the SP/AF120 quiet edition PWM fans I currently have are starting to have coil whine noises when RPM is above 700 and they're a little too loud for me above 1000RPM as my computer is on the desk right next to me.

The fans will be connected to the fan headers on the Asus Z170 motherboard and I will set the Standard fan profile on them in the BIOS.

I will need the following:

3x 120mm front intake which has dust filters on them
1x 120mm and 1x 140mm for my NH-D14 heatsink or 2x 120mm will do
1x 120mm exhaust

I don't really have a budget but around £13 per fan is good enough for me without breaking the wallet.

Many thanks!

Akasa /thread!

+1

Apache all round, for performance and a blacked out look!
The Apache works as heatsink and case fans?

Bequiet silent wings 2. Nothing touches them apart from Noctua. Try the redux noctua fans as they are a bit cheaper
Is the Noctua fan better than the Apache?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £16.65

What is best depends not just on their use, but how you plan to control their speed. There is no logical reason for case fans to be constant speed, any more than there is a reason for CPU and GPU fans to be constant speed.
Arguable the best are Gentle Typhoon, but not easy to get. Phanteks PH-F120MP and PH-F140MP are both quite good. So are new Fractal Design Venturi HP and HF fans. But even low cost Arctic F12 and F14 are good in their price range.

Going to place the order tomorrow morning but out of these 4 fans, which one has good airflow for heatsink and case that can shift plenty of air at low to medium RPM as I want the best bang for buck?

While I have not comparison tested the PH-F120MP against Vardar or Akasa, people I trust and believe have tested the PH-F120MP against Vardar and found it to be very good, as the airflow to sound level graphs above show.

I would get the PH-F140MP because of what others I trust have told me.

I second that.

Running 4 Silent Wings 2 myself and their excellent and can't hear them at all unless they'd spin at max and that wouldn't be loud either, just audible.

Was considering Noctua but the colours put me off even the grey Redux. Although the price on Redux is very tempting.

Phanteks are worth a pop I guess, especially as they're the cheapest but personally I can vouch for the Apache based on my own experience.
