Iv recently purchased my first AV receiver and started putting together a 5.1 set up bits at a time as I can afford it.

Anyway iv been trying to figure out what speaker cable to go with. I asked about the QED micro (non silver) cable at a local hi-fi shop and he said go with the QED classic over this as its the same price but better. The QED Silver anniversary XT cable has also caught my eye but this is double the price.

It will be used between the below:

Onkyo 605
Mordaunt Short 905C
Mordaunt Short 902 fronts

These are obviously not very high end bits but will the QED silver anni actually make a worth while difference? Are there any other budget cables around I should consider?

You have a nice amp and decent speakers. You should be able to tell the difference with cable quality between non oxygen free and oxygen free varieties. Non OFC just sound dull and flat. Get some OFC cable appropriate to your budget.

I use QED Original for my fronts and centre and QED Micro for the rears.

Not expensive at all.

My setup:

Onkyo 876
Monitor Audio Silver RS6
Monitor Audio RSLCR
Monitor Audio RSFX x 2

Iv just bought some mission speakers for my rears so going to leave the silver anni stuff and go with the same as you mate. Original for center and front and micro for rears.

Thanks all.

I was pondering this lately, my kit's not worth mega money but surround cables have gone in the wall/ceiling so I wanted to get something decent. Found a lot of people pointing at just 2.5mm OFC cable, I got 20m from eBay for about £10.50. It's in and tested but only with surrounds to check it was functional, haven't 'used' it yet.

Heard good things about it though... tbh once it's oxygen free, and fat enough, I can't see where it goes from there, personally. We'll see, like I said I don't have particularly expensive kit so it'll be more than good enough for me and I've seen a lot of people with really high end stuff swear by it.

Cant go wrong with Van Damme 2x2.5mm Studio Grade Blue Series Speaker Cable for the cash. less then £2.50 a metre and is very good stuff.

A member contacted me offering there spare QED original which is enough for my fronts, center and in the future sub. Then ordered 15m of QED micro off the bay for the rears along with 24 Nakamichi banana plugs for all terminations.

Hope this all to be a decent upgrade from my Z-5400's.
