I haven't a clue about walking boots but the new lady likes walking so I'll make the effort.

What should I look for?

I guess I'd prefer something lightweight especially as I won't be doing anything severe.

Well I'd rather keep it under £100 BUT if it's worth spending more, just let me know. :)

Hi-Tec Altitude IV?

The most important thing is to try them on first though, so it's a lot better to go a shop than to just buy them online.

It really does pay to go and look.

Also depends on what activity you're after, by the sounds of it Merrells are likely to be a good bet as Bennie says, they're very well suited to light walking/hiking.

If you want waterproofs you have to stomach the cost and go Gortex or good old fashioned leather uppers, bearing in mind these take a fair amount of maintenance.

For hilly stuff, I'd highly suggest full ankle boots due to the support they afford.

Take a look at the sole of your new ladys boots, if they've deep wide tread, chances are the walks she likes can get muddy, if they have shallow tread then maybe not.

Definately go for goretex or equivalent, there's load of good waterproof boots upto £100, try them on for fit and these days you don't need to break them in.

Full ankle support is a must, enjoy the walking.
