Spec me some wheels

Sorry, I don't understand....I realise they are wider but how would that have an effect on the sidewall profile?

235/45 means 235mm wide and the sidewall is 45 percent of 235 (105.75mm).

255/40 means 255mm wide and the sidewall is 40 percent of 255 (102mm).

You were right...just for the wrong reasons.

You can ream out the centre bore if it is too small. If it is too big, you can use spigot rings (even though that isn't really that important)...and if the PCD is incorrect, you can use adaptors.

Can't go wrong with BBS's they look well. Similar to mine which are a pain to clean, looking at 5 minutes work on each corner to get them clean.

The bolts are particularly awkward, you need to keep on top of them.

are they bbs lms or rials?

They are horrible things though, bacicaly a giant wheel spacer so your offset is instantly screwed up.

I've seen TÜV-approved adapters from 15mm to 30mm thick.

As I mentioned previously, the three key elements to a wheel choice (stylistically speaking ;)) are width, offset and dish.

On a car like Foxypoos, I would be looking at 9j fronts and 10j rears (width), dropping the offset by 10mm minimum to push them out that little bit more and to ensure you have a healthy amount of dish.

I would keep the same tyre sizes that he has (possibly drop to 225 and 245) and make sure it doesn't look so scared of the tarmac.

Any particular reason the rears are a slightly lower profile that the fronts? Im just curious.

Totry and keep the same rolling radius.

edit: Doh saw your post further on
