Spec me something... different.

No. Its not sporty at all. Its very much a grand tourer.

a grand tourer with 500+ bhp v8 is sporty compared to a diesel 7 series. He has a less sporty 8 series saloon on his OP, which is why i thought one with better suspension and a much more interesting engine would be worth throwing into the mix.

Especially as he says this:

From what I can gather it's more of a GT car than a pure sports car - which for me isn't really a bad thing.

I did look at the M850i but again, they are pushing the boat out a little too far. I do think a change from BMW would be nice too.

I've had my Bullit for just over 2 weeks now and I guess I'm still in the honeymoon period with it but my god it's such a fun car. It has so much character about it and even just pootling about is enjoyable, it sounds that good. No real issues re quality for me but I'm coming from a Focus ST and load of JDM stuff before that so maybe I'm not the best to comment on that aspect.

FK8 was on my shortlist as well and no doubting it's an excellent drivers car, just didn't love the looks. After driving the Bullit and experiencing the V8 I was sold.

So I have continued searching and tried many cars. The Bullitt, 3.0 Supra, 718 Cayman S and GTS, Alfa Quadrifoglio, FK8 Type R...

Then I went to see a B9 RS5 Coupe (pre-facelift). I wasn't too sure what to expect but I thought it was fantastic. Loads of power, a very nice cabin, decent handling, masses of grip, good ride quality, a degree of practicality - sounds pretty good too.

People say they aren't necessarily the most enjoyable to drive, but I want a degree of luxury and it's an everyday car - and this ticked all of my boxes. The warranty is also reasonable to extend with Audi.

Collecting it soon.

Always liked the look of the RS5, particularly the later generations. It's a shame they dropped the v8 earlier in their lives. Quality of materials will be a step up from the mustang, that's for sure!

You drove some very driver focussed cars and ended up with something less so. The Audi is a fine car and will do its job well, but I can’t help but feel the experience will be on the dull side, compared to everything else you were looking at.

The RS5 is a good all rounder, but then you already have one of those, I can’t see the need to keep both.

I'm not keeping both? I only want one car.

Fair enough, I wrongly read that you might keep the Seven either way. As a one car solution the Audi makes perfect sense.

However there are probably a couple of other cars that are also good ‘all rounders’ that you could have looked at (C63 for one). But then I guess you didn’t know that’s what you wanted initially.

C63 is a muscle car in German clothing.

It’s more about power slides and V8 power than driving experience.

Also, cabin quality in the B9 is better than a W205/6 IMO.

My S5 is already an awesome jack of all trades car - I bet the RS is even better for twisty roads.

And? Robbo was looking at a Pony muscle car, therefore why not consider a different one?

Those traits are part of ‘driving experience’ are they not? That’s what makes the car fun and entertaining, which was part of the original brief.

Subjective, but Audi do make some of the best in-class interiors. Strange you would pick this one particular area for comparison; it’s fair to say the 7 Series cabin trumps pretty much everything in this area.

I will say though, having had a C7 RS6 and an F90 M5 previously, both with excellent cabins, I don’t feel I’m slumming it in a C205 AMG.

It’s all mute anyway as Robbo has made his choice. My point (which you missed) was about comparing other cars in the same group. I suspect Robbo was in a situation similar to where I was previously; I wanted something more entertaining than the Uber saloon I had, but very focused performance cars were too much compromise. I effectively wanted something close to as much fun as my old Cayman - but with more practicality and comfort - whilest having less weight and remoteness than my RS6/M5. I think Ive found it in the C63.

Looking forward to some pics of the RS5.

Responding to your suggestion that he should have looked at a C63.

I’m just pointing out it’s a very different car to a B9 RS5, so not sure it would have appealed.

Not always. Sure, Chris Harris and other journalists may want you to think that’s the case, but it’s not like you can drive like that on the public road.

Can’t deny a bit of V8 love though :p

I think it’s great in principle but not sure I’d buy a car because of it. Then again, I am booked to test drive a few C63s

Mentioned it as it was something he mentioned in his original post. Though much better IMO than the F8x M series of cars.

I’m sure you find the cabin fine, or good, but if you’re coming from a 7 series I feel like it’s going to be something you’re very sensitive to, hence just pointing it out.

That’s high praise - not many cars are going to be on that level.

I’ve been looking at C63s for the V8 experience, but need to work out whether the car is all about the V8 or if they’re genuinely a good drive too.

You’re right, the C63 is quite different to the RS5, when I mentioned it originally, I meant other competitors to the RS5, like but not specifically the C63. looks like Robbo already considered the Alfa Quad and owned an F80 M4, so he’d looked at the main alternatives.

Looking at the type of car he’s now chosen, I’ve have also suggested driving a Lexus RCF and maybe even the LC500 mentioned previously. Again, different cars to the RS, but both bringing something unique. A normally aspirated V8 and some of the best materials and fit/finish you’ll see in these types of cars.

If you want a V8 experience, you’ll not be disappointed. However it’s all subjective again so it may or may not float your boat. As long as you try other cars you’ll be able to make the best choice. It took me a while and a few cars to really work out what I wanted - in the end perhaps it was less of what Harris and co. think makes a good car and more of what I felt suited me more.

Awesome! Please tell me it's got an interesting colour spec, like kyalami green with red leather? :p
